Grant, the very first Johnson OB was a '22. This one was a '23, and the powerhead still felt nice and right on it. I'll bet you could have cleaned the carb and tank, dressed the points, and run it.
The guy who bought it was gonna hang it on a wall in his marina.

That’s neat, I have and old 3hp outboard that has an air-cooled Tecumseh 2 stroke powerhead with no reverse or neutral, I think it was called a skipper; my grandpa bought it up North at a department store called Heck’s, in the 60's.

Olf I can't tell ya how many Old Outboards my old man had.
He had one like that. Neptunes, Scott Atwater shifts. It was a big pile!
His Father was a Scott man, and that's what they mostly run when they were fishing out of rented skiffs. He said the rental dock had a big oil tank to run your motor in after you came in off the salt Water.

Yeah, the old aluminum lower units corroded fast around salt, and I've seen a lot of low time motors that were ruined because somebody didn't take the time to wash em down after they ran em. You buy them just for the guts.
A lot of the better antique motors come out of Minnesota these days. No salt. If you're in the market for an old one don't buy a motor from a coastal area, and nothing newer than 20's-30's if it's just for an investment. And if you find a Caille, just buy it.
