Re: rudders

poor boy rudders made out of 1/4' plastic
use to make them out of 3/8" plywood
they don't have to be pretty to work but do have to be big enough

Re: rudders

It's a shame that you didn't pose the question before you cut them off. There is no harm and little thrust penalty to be paid for having the prop dip below the top of the transom. Hopefully you haven't noticed a large difference in the amount of push you are seeing. As far as your rudders vs maneuv...

rudders

seems to me my rudders aren't controlling the boat like it should when I lowered the prop 6" into the boat that put 6" out of the air draft so I cut it off do you think I need to make new rudders and add the 6" on top of the rudders so all of the rudder will be in the prop draft here ...

Re: oil coming from dipstik

problem all started when I decided to put no O-rings in the oil return tubes you have to remove all of the rocker arms and then readjust when you put it back together and I had several of the valves staying open I been adjusting and rechecking and finally got it down to low compression on 2 cylinder...

Re: how low can the end of prop be in the boat and still be ok

Not sure why you would say that, but I will agree, and also say that I hope and pray that it is not either. :) may be my last year of air boating not much traffic on the river I run on and at my age it is some times a log walk if I would have engine problems I even bought a new carburetor for that ...

Re: how low can the end of prop be in the boat and still be ok

Ok Deano
I'll go 4-1/2 in the boat
it has always been an easy roller and that should help
I am pulling the engine to put in a few helicoils in some pan gasket bolts holes and 0-rings in the oil return tubes
and it just seems like a good chance to drop it
may be my last year but hope not

Re: lower shrouds on corvair engine

baffles.jpg Never ran a Corvair engine on an airboat, but after seeing the dramatic results attained on A/C engines by running proper shrouding, it seems hard to imagine that any air cooled engine would not benefit from using them. I don't know that the way the originals were configured would be op...

I have never had them on my motor but the guys on the corvair forums say I should be

I'm not sure what you are looking for exactly, but I worked at a semi trailer company for over 30 years, maybe a hat post or a roof bow will work for you the welder here in town had some scraps and he sold me some 1/8" thick and bent it for me wasn't cheap but was what I needed for moer streng...

Re: corvair

The tuning should help, if you can find a dwell meter, that would be a handy tool for getting it dialed in perfectly, not too sure on where the timing should be set for best performance without detonation though, I will ask my cousin who ran Vairs for many years. The timing by the book is 14% btdc ...
