Re: Jb hull with steel flex porpoising

If you get a straightedge and run it fore and aft at that rear lip, adjusting lip downward till dead flat, you won't need a trim tab, jacks just add crown to bottom for dry running ease.

Re: Tips on brazing cage wire

Make a T out of 1/2" conduit. The top should be around 12 inches and the downside 24 to 30 inches. On the long side flatten it and put a small notch in it. when brazing the wire you put the notch on the wire and you lean against it to hold the wire to the conduit. Adjust the lengths to where i...

Re: Is adding dual plugs worth it? 220 GPU?

Well, I can tell you, i ran against a guy in my boat with one mag off by mistake and he got me by a boat, ran same boat again with both mags on and jumped him out of the hole and walked away 4-5 boats ahead. Also having 2 mags has the advantage of getting back to the ramp or camp should one mag die....

Re: Veterans Appreciation Day Run

My in-laws are there with my twins, wasn't aware with so much other stuff going on, next year will have my boat ready I hope, as you know a painter's house is never bright, a roofer has leaks and a carpenter lacks baseboards. Great tribute to our veterans, kudos!!

Re: Are there any pics of 4.3 direct drive set ups out there

I set one up for a guy, it was a vortec as well out of a truck, I built an adapter that bolted to the tbi intake with 1 1/4 pipe stubs down into plenum and a Rochester monojet atop that, it performed very well.

No, block is filled with a cement type solid filler on older ones, new ones likely solid billet.

Uhairball wrote:So they get hot enough to melt the spark plugs, but immediately after the race they tear them down to ready for the next race. How do they cool them off so they can stand to work on them??

They burn up from detonation, the engine doesn't have time to get that hot for disassembly.

kwanjangnihm wrote:Will diesel affect rubber, seals, o-rings or gaskets differently than 100LL?

Not at all, diesel is a light weight oil in essence, the engine just had a nice top oil run through it, no harm done at all.

You need a reverse rotation box for the tach to operate. Oil temp at 220 is a bit high but not danger zone, what cooler are you running?

Re: Engine turning while towing

Not uncommon to windmill, no harm in it, proper rotation, pre oiling for cold starting. My cousin would sneak over to a buddy's 65 Continental and kick the mags on when he wasn't looking, boat would be idling when he got to the ramp, funny wtf moment.

Re: 220 gpu engines

Drill rear oil ports to 11/16 and tap 3/8 npt, same on cooler if you got one with them.
Replace exhaust with headers.
Numerous upgrades can be made to them.

Re: 220 gpu engines

Ok, all you need is what runs it from crank flange forward to the mag and Carb to drain plug. Any shrouding or ductwork goes, the studs on rear of case can be removed, the butterfly valve and servo off left rear side, plug oil supply port with a setscrew, build block off plate. Remove the governer f...

Re: GPU accessory case on E185?

Yes, I have done it, basic modification to start with bit tricky part was machining oil pressure relief valve into cover, the rest is like doing a dual mag conversion on a gpu, you will need to machine a crank gear spacer out of .125 aluminum and use a 220 crank and cam gear plus mag drive gears and...

Grease gun adapted to spark plug thread, pump them off. But I would first fill crankcase with phosphoric acid to eat a lot of the rust away, cylinders likely junk anyway.

Re: Pickled engines?

How was it pickled?
Fill it with fresh oil, pull top plugs, spin it over with starter till oil pressure builds, reinstall plugs and if fuel is primed up, crank it up, run it to about 1800 rpm untill hot. Let it cool and check things over.

Re: Looking for options to replace my 220

An o470-13 would be closest to mounting as the 220 but prop adapter and such are different and are longer.
