Re: New and need guidance on 0540

The O-540-B4B5 is a 235 hp engine. That's not much power for a 16 foot boat and I wouldn't expect it to run dry in any but the very best conditions. The fact that you're only getting 45 psi and have oil in the cylinders would lead me to believe that your engine is getting tired and you most likely a...

Re: Wreck At The Milk Bus?

I was there. He was concious, talking, but was in pain. He hurt his back, and dislocated his shoulder. He said he had a previous back injury/surgery, and may have aggrevated that. Took the Sherrif helicopter an hour to get there. They had to send another private boat to the Overstreet Landing to pi...

Wreck At The Milk Bus?

Was sitting at the Ridge on Saturday and heard that a boat blew over at the Milk Bus. Driver was hauled away in a helicopter. Any news on his condition?

Re: Harmonic Balancers

Just waiting for the ECM to come back. I'll be putting the engine back on the stand next week and hooking all the lines back. Hopefully back on the water first weekend of August.

And how messed up is that? I drew gator tags for WMA-3. :angry5: :angry5: Sure, I can go hunt gators but can't use my airboat. I guess I'm going to have to find someone with a mud boat. That or just hunt from the banks and hope for the best.

Re: Harmonic Balancers

First of all, it's an overdrive pulley; it's bigger and increases the speed of the supercharger by approximately 8%, giving you 3 psi more boost. An underdrive pulley would slow the supercharger, producing less boost. Super Chevy did an outstanding series of articles with the LSA where they started ...

Re: Harmonic Balancers

The fact is that adding the 8.6" overdrive pulley along with tune and LS9 cam will put me around 675 hp. That's worth it in my book. Cheap hp right there.

Harmonic Balancers

Part of installing an overdrive pulley on an LSA is changing out the harmonic dampner so that you can bolt your desired pulley to it. The harmonic dampner that came with the kit is manufactured by Innovators West. The interesting thing is the crank pulley installed on the engine right now is a solid...

Re: New boat engine opinions

Yep. However, whether you get your LSA from PCM or Marine Power, it's still the same GM crate engine you can buy from Summit. They do superficial 'upgrades' for the marine environment. They convert to MEFI ECM (which isn't full of unnecessary software for offroad applications) and provide a fuel inj...

Re: New boat engine opinions

For what it's worth, Bill, Timothy and I all got are engines from the same distributor, although I got mine direct and not through a vendor. They tried the same crap with me about warrantying the problem at first but then I scanned and emailed the warranty I had on hand and told them we could do it ...

Re: Ring Gear Replacement

Did the ring gear this afternoon and put a new starter on for good measure. I'll rebuild the solenoid on the old one and keep it as a spare. The gear definitely wasn't kicking out as far as the new one was even though it's about 6 months old. I did have a piece of the phenolic ring break off about a...

Re: New boat engine opinions

For what he spent on the LSA he could have had a sweet powerful BB. That's the damn truth. When he told me what he spent for the LSA I about crapped. He spent almost $6,000 more than I did just for the engine and then installation on top. I would have never considered the LSA at the price he paid. ...

Ring Gear Replacement

Three part thread. Over the weekend, my ring gear stripped and I have to replace it. From the look of the teeth, it doesn't look like the starter gear fully engages the teeth on the flywheel; only half of the teeth are worn and the worn teeth are not all together. That is, 30 or so teeth look worn, ...

Re: New boat engine opinions

I have a friend that replaced his BBC with an LSA on a boat your size (his is either 19 or 20 and he runs tours with it. Deep hull and full seats so very heavy loads). He's running 2.68 gear with super wides. The boat runs ok but from what I hear, he is missing the BBC. If I were you, I would go wit...

Looks like a Lycoming O-360, angle valve, narrow deck. Was probably rated at 200 hp.

They are letting water in from the north, big time. The current was ripping down Lyle's Trail yesterday. Solid current running down my trail as well.

Re: 3A-3B closed ?

Makes it really hard to justify spending 20k +/- on a nice boat down here when you can only ride 6 to 8 months out of the year. Sold my last Benny Webb boat a year and a half ago and I'm in no rush to get another one at this rate. I think my next boat will have to be a beater that I don't mind lett...

You're correct. I did not figure in his gear ratio. You would have to divide RPM by gear ratio to get actual tip speed.
