Re: High School Airboat Build II

Gary S We have done a free flow back into the tank and the pressure slows down as it runs. If we kink the hose it does not shut off. So we moved the clear filter to a spot between the pump and carb to see if we could see anything. On my prep I took the carb off and reset the floats they were low. Wh...

Thanks everyone for the comments on the rudders, we cut the lower tab off and when we do our teardown to paint we will weld a new tab up more towards the middle of the rudder. Coastslider we have not solved our problem yet. It will start right up, run for about two minutes and it shuts right down li...

Re: High School Airboat Build II

I don't know if this will work but here it goes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wm5MQqAd8O8 It has a little light popping from the exhaust that I 'm thinking it needs the muffler or something for back pressure. It will run for about 3 1/2 minutes and then it just stops. I need to pump the throttle, ...

Re: High School Airboat Build II

Well we will try putting this thing together again. Not sure on setting these valves since they are hydraulic lifters. We are thinking 3/4 turns past 0 lash. http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k292/CWAIS/AIRBOAT%20BUILD%202/IMG_0873_zpsnzfz4cig.jpg http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k292/CWAIS/AIRBOAT...

Wires and wire holes are getting welded up and cat walk should be done tomorrow. http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k292/CW...

Re: High School Airboat Build II

I know it's been awhile but it's just bad luck or maybe good luck, depending on how you look at it. Three days of ACT testing, two snow days and the last five days trying to get my heart rate to stop falling. I've always run in the low 50's and sneak into the 40's at times. The last couple of days &...

Re: High School Airboat Build II

The lower part of the cage got finished up ( cut , bent , drilled , coped and welded up ). Top mounts for the rudder rods were welded up. Bottom mounts were lined up and tubes tacked in place. RDB - I put some pictures of our jigs, crude but they work! The big loops and the T-Bars were bent on a ben...

Re: High School Airboat Build II

Rick McC, thanks for your comments. The holes are there for the wires. Once they are in place every hole will be welded shut top and bottom. John Hagen from Onalaska, WI makes his cages this way, they are called a "HAGEN CAGE". They look very nice when done but they are more work. I don't ...

Pretty bummed out tonight, I will get to that after I explain a few pictures. We got the bolts turned down to fit inside the loops and all the J Bars are coped on one end and drilled for wire. Wired everything to run the engine. The H pipe was welded up for the exhaust . We made up a bracket for the...

Re: High School Airboat Build II

One of the students turned some bushings to make a flange tool for the drain holes. We borrowed a flange tool but the bushings on the tool were too short and it caused the drain tube to wrinkle a little, so we made new bushings for the flange tool and it worked great. One student milled down the out...

Re: High School Airboat Build II

So today we bent up a gage panel, didn't get it welded but I think it is going to look great. We scored the bends since we had to bend them on the edge of the table. They also got the supports for the seat and foot platform. Thanks for the nice comments Gary I will pass them on. http://i91.photobuck...
