Re: Caddy 500 melted spark plugs

Not to hijack the thread but to answer Russ. There have been several sources that I had read about ethanol fuel degradation, don't have a link for you but I first found issues with ethanol enhanced (oxygenated) fuel in a vented system about 7 years ago. The scientific name is "phase separation&...

Re: Thermostat or no thermostat

The Moroso kit has three restrictors. If your running to cool which in Florida with 90 plus degree weather is really hard to believe swap to the smaller diameter restrictor. If not pop in a 165 stat and watch the gauges.

Re: Caddy 500 melted spark plugs

If you have it off the boat you may want to check the bearings and rings. That level of detonation can waste your rod bearings and crack piston rings. As Deano advised get your casting numbers because your compression calculations are more than likely off. Usually a true flat top will put you at eit...

Chevy is the most cost efficient. You can research the gear drives the have names such as Rotator, OX Box, Stinger, Ballistic and Precision. A fresh 383 small block in the US is less than 10k in the event shipping to China is allowed and cost effective. Personally with all the internet scams you wil...

WELCOME

I see your "new" here on Southern Airboat Klhmec where do you ride and tell us about your boat.
There are a few Caddy guys left around here still but as parts get harder to find the herd is getting thin.

Re: Sanshandaobojue's airboat building 2017

Your biggest challenge with this will be finding a "gear box" or transmission to adapt for these engines. The Aluminum V8 used in the Lexus is interesting some Toyota Tacoma owners try adapting them for off road truck use. A good big block Chevy or small block would be the easiest way to b...

Re: Newbie with questions

Ironically my engine developed a dieseling habit a few months back after we did a re-tune. Basically my issue was my idle was to rich and after a 1/2 turn on each idle circuit the problem is gone.

As PapaJack suggested Rotax builds some serious compact hp.

My CanAm ATV runs a 1000 Rotax and it is a beast of a V2 engine about the size of a 12 pack and makes 90hp.

Re: Tree stand thief in Brevard county

Was your stand erected in a lawful place during a allowed time ? At Suwannee you have to have your name on it with your hunting license number and if it is placed to early or not removed at the end of the season the land managers remove them and their LE staff are looking to cite you. They don't pla...

Just pay attention to the arrow on the primer they are a directional flow. The ones sold by Evinrude dealers, their actual brand of primer is great quality they seem it last better than the generic with pump fuel.

JOPETE if your GPU came out of the old Hoffman shop up in Inverness that explains your happiness. Dick Hoffman was a great engine / boat builder a true pioneer racer and airboat legend. Re: am i wrong? NOT an AC vs. Carboat question.

If you plan to go running dry with a 16ft boat and 4 passengers, you are getting into the "big inch, wide blade, gear driven car motor territory". I have seen several good running aircraft powered boats struggle to carry a lesser load. A heavier and solid build boat with higher sides will ...

FWC airboats headed out along with several swift water rescue teams from across the state.
Just had a story on the evening news. They are forecasting water in some areas to be roof top height around Houston by morning as they now are opening up the dams to relieve pressure.

I cook thru a OEM style gasket in about 6 months, I'm done with them. The individual copper gaskets work great and we re-use them with no issues. I put a little dab of high heat red RTV sealer on it and that allows me to stick it in place and put the header bolts thru. I do them one at a time just g...

Re: Thermostat or no thermostat

In Florida we can get away with not using a thermostat in carbureted engines. We either gut a stat and re-install it or for some of the extreme builds that require some ability to tune the flow we use the Moroso #63440 water restrictor kit. In my experience an old thermostat with the guts cut out wo...
