Re: Boat will not get up on plane and is really slow???

It is really hard to grasp how an exact replacement build, turning the same blades, pitched at the same mark at 3000 rpm and using the exact same mounts / rigging could be acting this way. Maybe consider putting a level on the rigging at the base and adjust the trailer attitude to level. Then take a...

Re: Boat will not get up on plane and is really slow???

Did you replace this engine with a Mercruiser Marine engine or a inboard boat engine?

Which direction is the prop turning ? clockwise or counter clockwise

Re: Ducknutt Build 500 Caddy

The front mounts were made by Ned for the original DD build (Neds Fabrication, Inverness FL) a few years back and are a very good design for use in a saltwater or rough service environment.

Thanks Kwan for IT support :salute:

Re: Expansion Tank ?

I run a Caddy and got my tank from AlumiTec but it looks nothing like your configuration.

That's a custom so if you want a direct replacement take it to your local radiator or fab shop and have them copy your old one.

Doubtful your gonna find a clean fuel injected LS3 boat at that price! Probably could find a decent aluminum hull with a reliable 383 in that price range. Read up on what to do in buying a boat I have seen so many people ripped off, BEWARE On another note: We all know the best automobile engine ever...

Re: Black Monster

A great video to show folks how fast you can get yourself into a jam. This also serves as a great example of why you need to keep your engine serviced and run top grade fuel. You never know when a situation will require you to run it at a sustained full throttle to get the boat out of a bad spot. Yo...

Re: Ducknutt Build 500 Caddy

With coolant (anti-freeze) a 50/50 ethyl glycol is a good choice. Research has shown that nothing cools better than plain distilled water with a "Water Wetter" type additive, it is what extreme racers use but for us we need a solution that offers more corrosion protection. My aluminum head...

Re: Ducknutt Build 500 Caddy

How the idler came to pass was Mr Branch had a "sleeper" street race car years back that he would on occasion call out the show off or loud mouth. The engine was built to spin up over 6,000 rpm and after every pass he would find the belt thrown off. He checked alignment of the pulleys and ...

Re: Ducknutt Build 500 Caddy

Duck forget about the air stream to the prop brother and put that radiator where it will get the best airflow. A 4-5 inch difference on a big inch engine equates to an easy 10 to 15 degree heat increase, maybe more on some boats. I have done the testing this is not just talk. The Cadillac platform d...

Call Floral City Airboat would be my advice get the radiator and mount kit I love Alumitec but their heavy duty unit had in and out on the same side, didn't work for me. As Deano so gingerly advised, you best make sure about that plug or run a thermostat because it cost another fellow on here a bunc...

Re: What prop, reduction to go with

Hard to beat S blades on a heavy boat. Totally agree that the 2 mark is ideal setting, anything past 2 1/2 is a sponge. I have never run Whirlwinds so can't compare. I recall they liked to be spun up a little higher rpm than my engine was spec for when making my decision. The old junker can't keep u...

Re: Metal car port

Probably because of the codes. Not sure your situation but if your in a remote area and would sneak something in without a permit (violation) there are companies that will sell a do it yourself kit and ship. I was looking a few months back and one company offered engineering which if you were going ...

Re: Trim tabs

I struggle to grasp why that ratio was selected?

It is just plain wrong in my opinion for that power plant and prop.

That fat boat screams 2.52 or 2.67 and 4 blades to me!

Re: Trim tabs

Well you are not into the horsepower range of that engine if it is a GM Performance 572 that has not been altered. The 572/620 drops it's torque curve at 4200rpm and is still building horse power up to 5400rpm. How many blades are on the prop and what is it's diameter ? A different gear ratio may be...

If your considering S or SuperWide blades on a 2.68 with 500 to 530 ft lbs torque I'm thinking a 3 blade set up.

Re: What prop, reduction to go with

To help with this choice understanding your engine output is vital in my opinion. You referenced a LS stroker but I did not see any other data on the build. Can you advise your engines projected hp/torque and rpm at cruise speed (sweet spot) and it's projected top (sustained) rpm for some reason I d...

Blu ran a set like that, the metal was really good quality but with his old 509 it was sort of louder rumble than the turbo style. I probably will try MagnaFlo or maybe the Jones on the next go around. Thanks for the pic.

A1 runs the Jones bullets they work really well. My generic stainless turbos are very quiet and cheap but in the salt you only get 3-4 years of hard running out of them.
