Re: What prop, reduction to go with

If your considering S or SuperWide blades on a 2.68 with 500 to 530 ft lbs torque I'm thinking a 3 blade set up.

Re: What prop, reduction to go with

To help with this choice understanding your engine output is vital in my opinion. You referenced a LS stroker but I did not see any other data on the build. Can you advise your engines projected hp/torque and rpm at cruise speed (sweet spot) and it's projected top (sustained) rpm for some reason I d...

Re: BBC Mufflers

Blu ran a set like that, the metal was really good quality but with his old 509 it was sort of louder rumble than the turbo style. I probably will try MagnaFlo or maybe the Jones on the next go around. Thanks for the pic.

Re: BBC Mufflers

A1 runs the Jones bullets they work really well. My generic stainless turbos are very quiet and cheap but in the salt you only get 3-4 years of hard running out of them.

Re: BBC Mufflers

What style are they JEEP and can you post a pic maybe?

I run a generic stainless turbo and they are awesome but in the salt the welds and low grade stainless do not last forever.

Re: 4.3 DD Prop

I though I had seen that boat before! If you remove the air scoop does it have a choke blade (butterfly) that maybe is wired in the open position? If it does then your fix on cold starts may be to add a manual choke cable to it that would let you use that butterfly as intended. That would fix your p...

Re: 4.3 DD Prop

With a direct drive you want a smaller cfm carb, it looks like who ever set up that 4.3 boat knew about direct drive needs because the tall carb adapter will aid in building torque. It also looks like a small carb up top as well which will give good response at lower rpm.

I would leave it alone!

I have seen some of his old videos from back in the day to include a episode filmed with the great Curt Gowdy. What Lieutenant Shirley did back in the day to both protect the wildlife and culture of the Everglades is legend. He was one great gladesman ! For those who may not know in his warden unifo...

There you go! You got a starting point

Good luck with it and make sure that what ever you do with the build that it is safe, that's what matters most.

Re: 4.3 DD Prop

It will not be an issue if you are going to do a quality rebuild. When the block and heads go to the machine shop and they hot tank it that scale and corrosion should dissolve away. If I understand the Mercruiser 4.3 platform it is essentially a SBC with 2 cylinders removed. As such my best direct d...

Re: 4.3 DD Prop

Was it a raw water cooled engine or did it have a sealed cooling system? I ask because if it was a raw water cooled engine used in salt or brackish water the chance of rust and scale would be very concerning. An airboat uses a sealed system configuration where corrosion and scale will restrict the e...

I think it is a old "Trim Master" system.

They are out of business but here is a link to a possible parts source.

She is all finished up John. Not sure what I am gonna do with it at this point. Originally it was going into a cradle and going to serve as a back up engine. It sure sounded good that is one hell of a rotating assembly. You should give Buddy a call, I'm sure he would like to hear from you. Funny loo...

Re: Difference between direct drive and reduction gear?

Arnaudd it really depends on what you are looking for and how big a rig your gonna push. Up around Cedar Key there are several fellows who run inline 6 Ford 300 in DD set ups and for their purpose it serves them very well. There boats are in the 13ft range and they are rigged on the lighter side mos...

Re: header length n tuning

I get to spend a lot of time in and out of the Branch shop with engine builds and one of the biggest problems that I observe is headers that are not properly matched to the ports. Often times the header is built totally improper in relation to the marriage of the pipe to the flange with Cadillac bui...

Not a bad idea to save a jar full of the contaminated fuel either!

It is the evidence of wrong doing.

You will also want to preserve any communications that admit or acknowledge blame should they change position at a later date.

I think at this point in time the prop technology and science is so far along that any gains in efficiency between modern production blades may be very small and easier to see on a gauge or test stand than felt in the seat of your pants. Just like with building an extreme engine there comes a point ...
