Re: Lycoming 4 cyl cruising rpm

Aircraft engines are designed to run at a continuous RPM of 2500-3000 depending on motor. Your 360 can run at 2750 all day. With that said though both boats are pretty big for those engines hauling tools or gear. JMO

Re: Stringer material?

I went white pine. I've resined them real good. Gonna do mat then a few layers of biaxial cloth/mat. Just not sure how many layers I should do. Thinking 1 mat and 2 cloth/mat. Didn't know if I should do a 4th layer. That biaxial stuff is suppose to be pretty dang strong. Thanks for any advice.

Any of you fiberglass gurus out there have a recommendation on how many layers of mat or cloth to use when doing stringers?

Flying eagle water?

Thinking about running flying eagle today. Can anyone give me an update on the water level. That place can turn into a 4 wheeler track when water is low.

Re: Sensenich or warp?

Use to run a 72" 5 blade warp on a 285hp 520. Hated the sound and the sticky green grass would hang it up. Rapped up quick but just didn't have the low end needed to get moving if there was any resistance. Now I'm running a 72" NGH 3 blade on a 300hp 520, same hull/rigging. I spin it up to...

Re: Stringer material?

Regular old spruce pine huh? That will make it cheap. I had heard a recommendation of cedar but I was dreading trying to find that in 2x4x12 and then what it would cost. Thanks for the info.

Stringer material?

Got a new baby on the way so I'm gonna convert my boat over to a more family friendly ride boat. I'm gonna change hulls to a 15' viking with rod boxes. I've had it in the back yard for awhile because it needs stringers. Has 2x4 stringers now. Any opinions on best wood/material to use, would like to ...

Re: gpu 220

That's a lot of oil but not unheard of on a gpu. That motor is just a non-flying aircraft engine so anyone that has ever done a top end on an aircraft engine can do it. Super simple job. Ducurra aviation will have all the parts necessary. No idea on price up there but it's probably a little more tha...

Does anyone have the true measurements (length & width) of a 2 blade sensenich hub. Would like to know for both short and long hub versions. Not just looking for length. Thanks.

Re: 8cyl gpu convert or not

Before JC Stanley passed (the original gpu converter) I was talking to him about this. He said the torque was unreal. He did say it loved fuel but you would have 400hp with some serious torque. My experience with gpu cranks are that they are plenty strong...until they are turned.

Re: JUST GOT BIT BY COTTONMOUTH!!!!!

Unless I'm wrong Cottonmouth is the only fiberglass hull builder I know that has been building the same exact hull for 30 yrs with repeat buyers. Old man has a good solid product and he doesn't need to sugar coat it or defend the weight of his hulls. I'll venture to say more deer and hogs have been ...

Re: aircraft oil

I switched to the Amalie about 7 months ago. 2 oil changes and no issues. Same specs as aeroshell but they don't have to pay all the extra attorneys and insurances by calling it aircraft oil. Only major problem I have with the oil is whomever they put in charge of making their label didn't realize t...

I built one a few years ago when I had a big enough hull to scallop out of. It was out of 2 1/2 PVC if I remember right. If you google PVC boat ladder you will see a bunch of pictures of ones that are similar. Cheap and doesn't rust.

Re: 520 Contential updraft vs down draft.

Granted I've got a 520 conversion but cylinders are the same. I have had both down draft and up draft on mine. I felt like the downdraft (had a holley 500, then a edelbrock 600) rapped up quicker, but the down draft ran smoother and burnt less fuel. No difference in HP I can tell. helicsher, if your...

Re: Poly on fiberglass hull

I've had poly hold up to some hard stump hits. Might crack the hull still but it usually doesn't punch a hole like that. I don't have poly on my hull now and I've patched at least 6 holes in the past year. U definitely lose performance with poly vs quickslick though.
