Re: Mean little 4 cyl.

pirate the 541 cylinders are a completely different animal. they are same bore and stroke but the flange location is different on the 541 it moves the cylinder head closer to the block creating more compression. however they are not just a bolt on and go. they have to be modified to work right. whe...

Any number of folks on here say "the prop tells the tale." Or words to that effect. Short of that or dyno testing, it's a crap shoot as to HP.....first liar loses.

Never met Ken face to face. E-mailed through SA time to time. Talked to Dave Stratton about the rigging he was building for him a number of years ago.

May he rest in piece.

Re: Greg McCloud Bendix Mag rebuilder

When I contacted him to ask about a part for a carburetor that might increase fuel flow he told me he would send it, for me to install it, if it made a difference send him the money. If not just send the part back. That's pretty much unheard of these days.

Re: Lycoming piston part numbers

If you'd really done a search, you would have contacted Lycoming yourself or at least learned something about the engine from the internet. I Wasn't beating around the bush. I Thought the links might make you think a little and try and figure it out for yourself. So much for that. The younger genera...

Re: Lycoming piston part numbers

Call bull all you want ace. If you still believe 666403 is a part number, take it up with Lycoming. Here's a copy of the e-mail they sent.... Unfortunately, the number that you have provided must be a casting number of some sorts, as I was unable to identify the part based on this number. Kind Regar...

Re: Lycoming piston part numbers

No sir no hurt feelings here. Just didn't like the attitude implied in your post. And although you are correct the links you shared have some really neat info. What you are failing to understand is I would like to find info for the specific piston part number I originally listed Sorry you had a pro...

Re: Lycoming piston part numbers

And your reason for believing this is?....The bore of the O-290 is 4.8750 in and the stroke is 3.875 in...nothing is going to change this unless it's bored out. There are 6 different O-290 certified aircraft engines. The O-290-D /11 /D2 /D2A /D2B / and D2C. Then there's the one you have which is the...

Re: I have a question

John,

I've seen two true 170 HP (O-340) engines . Bore 5.1250 Stroke 4.125

Lew Ingle from Inverness owned both. To the best of my knowledge he still had one in his shop when he passed away. I probably have a copy of a parts catalogue for one around here somewhere if you need one.

Here's a couple of links you may want to check out. From what I can find, torque spec's are based on diameter, type of material, and thread (course/fine) type rather than the tool used to tighten them. https://www.boltdepot.com/fastener-information/bolts/US-Recommended-Torque.aspx https://www.fasten...

I have a question

From time to time I see Lycoming O-320 engines that were originally straight valve 160 hp engines advertised as 170 hp due to the addition of angle valve cylinders. If angle valve cylinders automatically give a 10 hp increase why do most O-540 racing engines run straight valves when they could pick ...
