Re: 4 blade vs 5 blade for heavy load

I'm thinking the S blades for the low rpm push, with the 2.3 I can only turn the engine about 4800 and lose probably 40 hp if it builds all it's hp at 5200 but still have all the torque. I might need to go with a 2.5 so I'm not leaving meat on the bone. I'd really like to keep the max rpm's around 5...

4 blade vs 5 blade for heavy load

The 3 blade 79 inch R isn't going to be enough prop for my heavy 14x8 DB so I'm trying to decide if the 5 blade is worth the extra $$ or is it a waste? I'm getting ready to order the mild cam 632 which should be about 650 hp at 5200 and 800 ft lbs at 4,000 it will have a 2.3 belt drive. The whole ri...

Re: First Airboat Help!!

Just don't tell her how much it really cost and you'll be fine, what she don't know won't hurt her lol A 4 cylinder on a small light hull will run dry but 3 people is pushing it. Seems the general consensus around here is it takes about a 1 hp to 4 pound ratio to run dry with confidence assuming the...

Re: Props for smaller powerplants

I think Arrow prop is who you are looking for, the prices are reasonable and nice quality. My first boat which was a 4 ft by 8 ft glass over plywood hull with a 16 hp single cylinder had a 42 inch 22 pitch 2 blade would do 22 mph in shallow water and I'm about 230lbs

Re: BBC Mufflers

I've been looking at stainless with 4 inch in and out but don't want a big bulky muffler, the Jones turbine mufflers that Swamphunter mentioned do seem to have a nice free flow design and look like a good value. they are about $70.00 each to your door on ebay, I'll probably try a pair soon. I think ...

Re: New to Airboats in Tampa

If I had to choose one or the other it would probably be salt water but that's mainly because of my Snook fishing addiction, there's just nothing quite like a big Snook exploding on a top water plug right next to the mangroves. We here in Florida are very lucky to have the vast areas to ride both sa...

Re: New to Airboats in Tampa

Welcome to SA, ride where ever there are no signs prohibiting air boats but remember to always be courteous. the average person doesn't like the noise very much but they have probably never been lucky enough to ride in one, once they do their outlook changes. Hernando county has strict rules, Citrus...

Re: 220 bogs and loses power at wide open throttle.

I had a very similar issue recently with my GPU, disconnected the fuel line between the electric pump and the mechanical pump to check the pressure coming out of the elec. pump and there was almost no pressure.... so off to the auto parts store I go with receipt in hand for a warranty exchange, get ...

Re: Light bars

just started installing the light bars on the Diamondback I'm putting together, mainly for gigging and bow fishing but a few facing straight forward as driving lights. The engine builder is putting two 140 amp alternators on it so even at an idle with all of them on there should be no issues running...

Re: New to me CMB

I am the previous owner and I had a blue print 383 with a blower and didn't work out to well. Then I had an all forged 383 from whites and did very well considering the weight. The bb was a better engine for the boat but ls would do good to I'm sure. That belt is a 2.3 gear not a 2.1. good luck :th...

Re: New to me CMB

Steve it will be mostly a play toy in the Citrus swamp along with some backwater type flats fishing on the coast, most of the time there are two guys on the front deck/rake step along with a trolling motor so the weight of the BB would help balance the boat. too light in the stearn and they don't t...

Re: New to me CMB

For the best setup advice for that boat I would talk to Tommy and, or Scooter at Diamondback because with a 2.1 belt drive you may overpower it with a big block. If it was me I would go with a 350 SBC or a 383 stroker. I have a 15x8 Diamondback with a 350 SBC rated at 330 HP and a Ch3 2.38 belt dri...

Re: New to me CMB

I would think a 14ft boat would be better served with a LS3 / LS7 platform due to weight. Five people in a 14 with a BBC don't sound to safe or forgiving. If your set on a BBC and big inch engine, I recently found a new 632 short block assembled by Dart for < $5000 PM if you want the lead. If you h...

Finally got my dream boat, No such thing as the perfect boat but this is about as close as it gets for me.... I think :D . It's a 14x8 Diamondback 5 seater - removable front triple, all stainless rigging, 30 inches deep at the rear corners, Century 2 to 1 belt drive, Sensenich 80 inch 3 blade R prop...
