Re: Lots of 0470 questions.

Don't know if you were aware of this or not . . . but there is a manual right here for that engine: http://www.southernairboat.com/pdf/aircraftengines/continental/470/Continental_0-470_15_O.pdf If you right click on that link and then select "Save target as ...." you can download it and h...

Lots of 0470 questions.

Putting together an 0470-15. This is really my first aircraft motor, besides replacing jugs on a 220. So I've got questions. First is, what do I need on this case besides the mags obviously? And what do I need to block off? I seem to be missing the tach cable mount it looks like also. I haven't real...

From what I've been told .060-.090 bottom dead on the lobe with lifter compressed. And set as close as possible to each other.

Re: GPU accessory case on E185?

Yes, I have done it, basic modification to start with bit tricky part was machining oil pressure relief valve into cover, the rest is like doing a dual mag conversion on a gpu, you will need to machine a crank gear spacer out of .125 aluminum and use a 220 crank and cam gear plus mag drive gears an...

GPU accessory case on E185?

About to swap to the 185 motor and the mags sit way higher than on the gpu where they sat under my rear seat. I hear the gpu case can be used on the E185. What has to be done to swap them and what has to be machined? Is it worth the work? Sent from my iPhone using Southern Airboat mobile app powered...

Re: Pickled engines?

Yea, you can also squirt some Marvel Oil in the cyls when you remove the plugs to prevent dry metal-to-metal rubbing when you first turn it over to prime it. If ya don't mind taking a video when you fire it up. Sure would like to see it when it comes to life. I sure can. Gonna watch it fog out the ...

Re: Pickled engines?

A bit depends on what the person who pickled it did to preserve the internals. As a very basic suggestion first do a good visual inspection, remove all spark plugs, spray cylinders with a mild thin lubricant (Marvel Mystery), change oil and filter, verify coolant if appicaple, with a breaker bar at...

Here's a couple pics after pulling 5 jugs off. #1 took out #2. 1 is stuck in the block for now and 2 I had to pull the rod with the piston to get it out. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170404/ee987aa4376d2256838c0465ec7478b5.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170404/4b20264418ecc4bc880dc6c44...

2.0L Turbo Ecotec with Gearbox Ill have my 1.4L making 230HP with all hope by next year, but you don't want to spend the time and money I am doing the tunes and bolt on mods. I'd love to go with an ecotec. I've seen some nasty ones, but it's way out of the budget and time frame I want to have it do...

Re: Looking for options to replace my 220

wouldn't it be a lot cheaper to go with another 220? I know there is mucho chance somebody will sell you their junk 220, but I am sure there are good motors out there somewhere if you look. maybe even try some popup pistons or something to liven it up if you need a bit more power. good luck with th...

Blew up my 220 yesterday and I'm looking for options for replacement. I was thinking 0-470, but it's looking a bit expensive. What are my options?

OK. Not to split hairs or nit-pick, but to fully understand what you've actually identified, a couple of clarifications please. . . . The back is around a 1/16 below the string and about halfway up the hull there is a pocket about a 1/16". When I went back and reread the thread to better under...

Ideal hull shape to not hop or plow?

What is "pretty straight"? :dontknow: That doesn't sound straight to me. If I was buying a car and somebody told me the frame was "pretty straight", I would walk away! Within an 1/8" till the curve of the hull. It has a lot of flex side to side. The back is around a 1/16 be...

Re: Ideal hull shape to not hop or plow?

Well. I think I found my problem. Put a string under it and it is pretty straight. Finally got it on flat pavement and it rocks back and fourth from side to side like it's supposed to. The problem is that the center stringers stay flat on the ground and the outer ones rock. Sent from my iPhone using...

Re: Ideal hull shape to not hop or plow?

If you can't drop a boat on your property, remove a bunk off a trailer, then silently winch the boat back on the trailer, you need to move! I can drop it for a short time. But my luck it would be sitting in the driveway for a few days. Sent from my iPhone using Southern Airboat mobile app powered b...

Re: Ideal hull shape to not hop or plow?

I can't do it at my house, I have to take it to the landing and when I get there I want to ride. Why not? As long as the trailer is set to dry load, you can load and unload the boat without turning it on. Un-hooking the trailer makes it easy to start on, just make sure you crank slow and are clear ...
