Re: High School Airboat Build II

I don't know if this will work but here it goes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wm5MQqAd8O8 It has a little light popping from the exhaust that I 'm thinking it needs the muffler or something for back pressure. It will run for about 3 1/2 minutes and then it just stops. I need to pump the throttle,...

Re: Ideal hull shape to not hop or plow?

I had a boat years ago that would porpoise whenever you ran it just a little hard.

I moved the engine stand two inches forward (too much weight to the rear), and it never porpoised again.

Re: Painterchic bought an Engine... now I need help!!!!

Absolutely stunning work, Mam!

My 88 year old Dad recently gave me his airboat, and I'd love to get some "Grandpa's Airboat" artwork done on the rudders to forever identify it as "his" airboat.

I have no idea what I'm going to do when he's gone...

I wear my prescription glasses. They're transitions; so no clip-ons or separate sunglasses necessary.

Thank you Helicsher for the tip on Pineapple key. Just got back in and sorry for the slow reply. Bonefish, I think Randy Wayne White would want to contact me as I grew up in the Glades, Big Cypress and been on alot of the islands through out the 10,000 Islands. I have explored a lot of south Florid...

Heads are on and next step will be measuring up for some push rods. Went with a different shaft system than shown in pics, needed a slightly less aggressive ratio. The new Edelbrock intake is being dropped off tomorrow for surface milling. It seems that every one of these that I end up with need to...

Re: High School Airboat Build II

Rick McC, thanks for your comments. The holes are there for the wires. Once they are in place every hole will be welded shut top and bottom. John Hagen from Onalaska, WI makes his cages this way, they are called a "HAGEN CAGE". They look very nice when done but they are more work. I don't...

That's a very nice, clean looking boat, Mam; congrats!

Those seats do look a might high, sitting up there around the top of the cage.

Perhaps I'll see you out on the coast sometime.

Re: High School Airboat Build II

Very nice, Sir! I noticed the holes in the cage tubes in your latest pics; I'm surmising that the cage wires are to go through them? I've not seen a cage design like that before, and I imagine that it'll provide a very clean look. I think for northern ( or any) boats designed for 100% freshwater use...

Re: DD thrust

Hi everyone, long time no post! But I have a question that only the southern airboat folks can answer. What kind of thrust would a 500 caddy direct drive engine create? Seems I've heard of gear box engines creating 12 to 14 hundred pounds of thrust, but never heard what a big cubic inch dd might do...

Re: Polymer installation

Floral City Airboats is about a half hour north of Spring Hill/Brooksville.

I'm sure they install poly, because when they built my Dad's boat (now mine), they tried their best to talk him into having poly on the bottom.

Re: Old airboat, new driver, and problems

Sorry for the lack of updates. December and January have had other demands come to the forefront. But duck season is now over, so I can get back to trying to build my duck boat. Speaking of which, Saturday morning was lights-out on the marsh - limit on the water in 25 minutes, all teal and squealer...
