Re: A man's word

That isn't something I could confirm or deny with that engine. However, based on my
Caddy experience, that certainly does not sound to be outside the realm of possibility.

Re: New to airboat - need advice

That is good news then . . . it ain't a 425. 8) .. It is worth confirming that 4th digit is a 6, could be a 5. 148 6 200 would be a later model, and consequently, lower compression (most likely) 500. When you measure the stroke: .. If it's > 4 1/4 then its a 500 (4.30) .. If it's < 4 1/8 then it's a...

Re: A man's word

What I meant was that the stock weight for the engine you looked up, likely included the factory intake.
Since, this one already has aluminum the weight difference would not be as large as that number would seem to imply.

Re: A man's word

There is no question that is a valid concern, and one that is admittedly more than passively relevant. Aft beam and freeboard would both be a consideration, as would operator experience. .. Is it a front driver, if not, could it be? Some people may say no problem, it's been done many times. I apprec...

Re: New to airboat - need advice

While all that is both needed and relevant information, You really first need to take a little time and identify what the engine really is. There was no 500 made until '70. If the year is correct and it's a '69, then it is a high compression 472. If the 500 cid is correct, it could be anywhere from ...

MoJoe, brings up a more than passively relevant point. Thank you for pointing this out. :thumbleft: When you said make new rudders, I was perceiving that you would loose that notch out of the top. Whether the pivot point is moved or not, that missing notch needs to be filled in. Part of the problem ...

Re: rudders

It's a shame that you didn't pose the question before you cut them off. There is no harm and little thrust penalty to be paid for having the prop dip below the top of the transom. Hopefully you haven't noticed a large difference in the amount of push you are seeing. As far as your rudders vs maneuve...

This thread is over a year old, Swamp. I'd hope BigEddie already has a season on his Branch cam. I put a thumper ca in my 472 . . . watch out on timing them they are cam timed to # 2 tdc then distriburer timed to tdc on #1 piston . . . As much as I hope your intent was to help others, this is a real...

Generically, that would be a little warm for my liking. While 190 may not hurt anything in and of itself, it leaves nearly no margin for error. If something unforeseen happens you could have a BBQ before you have time to prevent it. Many others will have a different opinion, but I am partial to runn...

. . . Anyone else ever have damper separate on them? . . . Not a real un-common occurrence in the BB Cady world, but then even the later model versions of those are now 40+ years old. Re: Rudder Coated with Bed Liner

I tend to agree, that wouldn't be my first choice either. However to answer your question . . . . . . Do you believe that spray on bed liner would create enough drag to hurt the boats performance? I do not believe the performance penalty would be measurably noticeable, though. Compared to other caus...

Re: Selling my 1995 Air Gator with Cad 500.. How much??

Back in the day when we could buy an intact Eldorado as a donor, the year did supply a good reference to which heads and pistons were in it. Those days have long gone. Unfortunately for us, when the price of scrap got so damn high a few years ago, much of our remaining inventory was disposed of. :an...

I perceived that his meaning was that digging could download the V4 software and play with it to become familiar with all the parameters and how it would work. He simply would not have a live ECM to program/play with while doing so.

As much as I hate to contradict our esteemed leader . . . I was just fixin' to point out to Tom, that he can't believe everything he reads in Wikipedia. :) That table has fostered more urban legends about the elusive '70 500, than the number of them that they made. The year is of NO real consequence...

Perhaps there is another, better way to describe or look at what is typically done to attain the end you are after. Let's forget/ignore prop to rudder setback for a moment and consider boat (top of transom) to rudder setback. If the front of the rudders where even with the top of the transom, when y...

Generic info implies that . . . . All Chevy 350 engines prior to 1986 were internally balanced. In 1986 the 350's changed to a center bolt valve cover, a one piece rear main seal and a different crankshaft. These engines are externally balanced at the flywheel. If you look at the late flywheels you ...

Re: Convince me to build a BMW airboat!

I concur, as I believe you hit the nail on the head. The 2.5 reduction puts a 66" Cypress 2 blade right at the designed 2900 rpm and ought to be near perfect. Additionally, peak torque would fall at 2200, which one would hope to be a healthy cruise . . . remember to keep it lite. Sounds like a ...
