Re: Fuel mileage towing 16 to 20 boats

Bert, I recently delivered a 16' airboat to Texas with my 2014 Ram 4x4 and averaged 9.7mpg pulling 75 mph on the highway. Coming back empty I averaged 20.4 running 75-80 mph. The truck has the 5.7 with the new 8 speed automatic. I used my father-in-laws 98' 2500 Cummins 4x4 truck to deliver a 20' ai...

Re: Ls to BBC

Some builders use an adaptor plate to mount the LS engine to a standard Chevy engine stand. If this is the case, you should be able to simply remove the adaptor plates from the front portion of the engine stand. If your engine stand was built for an LS engine, then I would build a new stand because ...

Membership is on $25. All you have to do is join the club and you get to participate. The starting place is Marjorie Rawlins Park in Cross Creek. The stops are Georgie Girls, Kay's Pasture, The Yearling Restaurant, Lochloosa Harbor and Twin Lakes fish camp.

Re: BBC Power Issues?

I agree with Joe, 600 cfm's is like running a restricted plate. I would run at least a 750 cfm carb. I would start there, then I would either do the 2.3 ratio swap as suggested. If you are on a tight budget you may want to give Waterwalker a call to see if they would swap your four blade hub for a t...

When I worked for GTO we built a couple airboat that the hulls were made of stainless for a mining company. That looks like a PatrolMaster series with a GM 454 big block with Century belt drive.

Re: Prop for 460 ford belt drive

The Century belt drive would be the way to go. Deano is right, they do make a dedicated CH-3 housing for a 460 Ford. Otherwise you would have to spend another $400-$500 on an adaptor for any other drive unit.

Really depends on your application. Are you running direct drive or reduction unit? The stock weights should be fine in either application.

They don't have any effect while running dry. They are usually up higher on the hull away from the flat bottom.

Re: PTR34'S ECOTECH VS AIRCRAFT

I rode on both, eco and a/c powered boats that Terry has. I would say the a/c engine boat had a faster top end speed but both performed great. The little turbo Eco engine ran dry with four oversized adults with no problems. It was also quieter than the a/c engine plus no avgas! No problems? ?? Not ...

Re: SBC/LS with Belt drive

Short answer is yes you can use the adaptor on the belt drive. However, there will always be some debate over the use of them in a belt drive application. I know Century Drive systems will not recommend it. I know of several boats using this setup with hundreds of hours with no issues. If it were mi...

Re: stainless steel help please?

A JD Squared bender will do a pretty good job as long as you take your time. I have seen some guys use conduit benders for small bends but they usually will not do a tight radius without kinking the material.

Re: stainless steel help please?

Most use .065 wall thickness. Use 1" for engine stand and main supports. You can use 5/8", 3/4" and 7/8" on everything else. If you spray the material with WD-40 before you weld it will keep the spatter from sticking to the material for easier cleanup. Yes you use 1/8" round...
