Re: is it ok to use aviation spark plugs O-540

There are quite a few threads on here about 0-540 plugs. Do some looking. I run Champion D16 but any brand in that heat range will work. If you are running the right automotive plug, you should get 25+ hours on them unless you idle around a lot in whick case you may foul a few. If you are having &qu...

Re: Paint or gel coat inside glass hull?

Without a sprayer, you can use a paint brush. Just get a contrasting color. Get A LITTLE on the brush. Stand about 5' away from where you want the splatter to land and "shake" the brush at it.

Try it on some cardboard first. Just takes a minute to get a feel for it.

Easy and looks good.

Re: Paint or gel coat inside glass hull?

If you are trying to get a mirror smooth coat on the outside of a boat, it is very difficult or impossible to brush or roll gel and accomplish it. If you are trying to get a slight texture with some contrasting splatter on the inside of a boat, brush and rolled gel works great. When you splatter, st...

Re: Lycoming 4 cyl cruising rpm

What I'm trying to get at is that not all 0360s are set up the same. Your mechanic will know yours best. My builder set my motor for wide-open throttle. The closer I get to 2700 the closer to perfect my mixture is. It runs rich at lower RPMs. And the oil temp won't tick till I run it 2/3 throttle fo...

Re: Lycoming 4 cyl cruising rpm

Sounds to me like you are trying to get advice from here to disagree with what the mechanic who works on you're motors said. Sounds like trouble to me. He knows those particular motors better than anyone and the guidance of even a moderate to poor mechanic who knows those particular motors is 1000 X...

Re: Lake Flourence drying up.....

It was flowing backwards up here Friday. It is at what I call low water equilibrium.

Only thing that can drop it any more would be a steady south wind.... and the NOAA forecast is for a steady SE blow later in the week.

We will see.

Are you saying you have good spark on both sides when you check by grounding each plug to the block? Or does one side have spark and the other no spark?

Just paint it Lycoming Gray and make it look even better!

Or select factory continental if you want.

That doesn't sound straight to me. If I was buying a car and somebody told me the frame was "pretty straight", I would walk away!

The little red stickers on the valve covers that say "Moore's Aircraft" sure makes you feel good when you run a mile over spring time sand and green grass expecting to see water around the corner and you don't!!

If you can't drop a boat on your property, remove a bunk off a trailer, then silently winch the boat back on the trailer, you need to move!

Re: Ideal hull shape to not hop or plow?

I can't do it at my house, I have to take it to the landing and when I get there I want to ride. Why not? As long as the trailer is set to dry load, you can load and unload the boat without turning it on. Un-hooking the trailer makes it easy to start on, just make sure you crank slow and are clear ...

Years ago, I asked JC Stanley that same question, but about all aircraft motors. He told me (and I am paraphrasing) they are all good if they are in good shape.

The more I think about that statement, the more wisdom I see in it.

Re: Ideal hull shape to not hop or plow?

Just to prove Deano right, and... I ran a string line on the bottom of mine just now (it has been about 4 years since I straight edged it). Right down the middle stringer checked out perfect, as did ALMOST everywhere, but I saw a spot in the polymer in between 2 stringers from about 5-15" from ...

1) Dump it on the ground.
2) Remove the center bunk.
3) Run it back up on the trailer.
4) Run string line or use straight edge

X2 with one eyed Gator. Jacks are last and just like motor angle, a little does a lot. With mine, I got to a point where I thought my old school hull was only gonna run so good. Then the slightest adjustment to the jacks and it "broke free". Literally felt like a different boat. Then a tur...

Mine has the rear almost flat with 1/16 down on the middle skrew. The center skrew to center skrew, my center jack pushes down 1/4" more than the rear jack and 3/16" farther down on its middle skrew than the sides. Don't have a front jack... yet. Rides really good until 29 mph, then it sti...

Tach hours are different than GPS moving hours, so our numbers are going to differ some... but not that much. You have a SUPER EFFICIENT boat. I would love to see the improvement you get from a Pacemaker. I know you're gas pedal would FEEL better, and if your mileage gets much better, you're tank wi...
