Re: Paint pain paint???!!

Awl grip is defiantly the best. Nason is a good paint also. Mason is a easy paint to use and it is durable. Nothing is going to stand up to running sawgrass. My theory is make it look new and use the hell out of it. If the paint wears off its a sign it isn't sitting on the trailer.

Re: Paint pain paint???!!

I like Nason automotive paint. Automotive paint suppliers have it, look up Nason dealers and you will be looking for a single stage . I think it is Ful Thane. It is a easy paint to spray with some practice.

Re: repainting a fiberglass hull

AwlGrip is the best of the best. Nason is a good single stage that doesn't cost what Awl Grip cost. Not sure what you mean by didn't hold up. Not stay shinny or not wear good. The Awl Grip will wear better and the shine last almost forever. ...

Re: Primer for a glass hull?

The Nason line is made by Dupont so as Gary said, just about any auto paint supply store would carry it.

First thing that pops up on an internet search is http://watkinspaintsupply.com/ in Titusville.
I'd expect you could find somebody closer, if you have some local yellow pages.

... As far as primer, you might get away without it but it will give you a better base for paint and also will show flaws before you put the paint on. Nason makes a quality paint.

When you start looking at Awl Grip or even the highest end automotive two stage paints the cost can skyrocket. Theres ...

... I'm glad I did it. I was inspired by a couple flats boats I would see running the flats after living in the keys for a couple years. It's actually nason full-thain paint. And I got an extra 2k integrated clear-coat that my buddy put into the last coat. Really makes the metallic in the paint come ...

Worked just fine for us on a lot of boats...get in my picture gallery and you will see multiple boats sprayed before hand with etching primer that is designed for nason paint. I am not an expert by any means but it has worked fine on past projects

... longevity, expense, application and touch-up are concerned, it's hard to beat a good bare metal primer and good 2 part urethane (I'm partial to Nason). The later should be sprayed, but it will look and wear like an OEM finish, and is really what you want for brand new rigging on a new build.

If you have an Interlux distributor close they have some flat colors, Parker would be another(Cabelas), SuperMarine and Nason's Ful-Thane single stage with flatting agent.(Local Automotive paint supply).

Good luck with your project!! :thumbleft:
