Riding in South Florida

Postby Batemaster » Thu Mar 16, 2017 4:59 pm

Been reading the forums for a few years now and finally got into an airboat with a buddy of mine. Small 12' fiberglass starter boat with a Lycoming O-290. Trying to get a little info on where to ride down here that's legal. Haven't checked to see if Stair Steps is open for airboating again and I need to get the permit regardless. Driving west I have seen a few public boat ramps north of 41 just west of the casino. Are these accessible year round? Seen one ramp leading to 3B and I believe 2-3 leading north into 3A South. In regards to hunting is it allowed in 3A or 3B? Thanks for the help.

As far as riding off of 41, most people put in at the microwave tower just past the village, at the bend. Beautiful riding in that part of 3A. You can also head to 2A for a change of pace. Just put in at Sawgrass Recreation off 27 or at the Stub Canal 3 miles further up the road. Good riding, mostly known for its camps and friendly people. As far as the Stair Steps, its my understanding that was closed a long time ago.

The ramps north of the trail are open. Hunting by permit. Riding have fun, water is going away fast. Airboat club on south side of 41 is having a poker run this weekend. Corned beef and cabbage that is next to none. Good place to meet new people.

I appreciate the offer and will take you up on it for sure as soon as we get the boat and trailer prepped and ready. Finishing some touch ups on the boat and freshening up the trailer it came with. Unfortunately I work tomorrow 24 hours so I won't be able to make it but I saw a BBQ I am going to try and attend. I am a green airboater but my friend and coworkers have some experience I have been soaking in.

Nice ride at the AAOF corn beef and cabbage yesterday Saturday. We had great weather and a Beatiful day with some nice riding.

If you missed our St Pattys poker run with corn beef and cabbage, make sure to try and make it to the annual bbq in April.

I am going to make it to the BBQ for sure with or without the boat.

Does anyone have a mechanic in Miami Dade they can recommend to give the motor a good look? Preferably someone with knowledge of aircraft motors.

Is Gus in Cutler Ridge by any chance? If so we are close. Would you happen to have his contact information?

Cool thanks. I actually looked at that earlier but was wondering the miccosukee price more than anything since I didn't see it on there.

Finally got a chance to get the boat on the water. Overall went well but did notice a few things that need work. Idles rough but runs fine once you give it gas. Oil cooler gauge not working. 2 of the blades on the prop are missing the ~12" metal piece at the end. Other than that ran pretty good. Don't really want to mess with the prop myself so if anyone has any recommendations they're definitely appreciated. Going to contact Gus this week to see if he can have a look and let me know what he thinks.

:rebel: I would not run that boat like that those blades should be balanced or weigh the same. you should send them back to the manufacture and have them reworked. :rebel:
