BBC Mufflers

Postby gtransue » Fri Mar 18, 2016 3:13 pm

Just looking for a few recommendations for my 496. I need the part numbers to look them up, and have them shipped up.

Magnaflow, Summit part number MPE-14149, these are awesome, stainless steel, 12" long, 3" inlet/outlet, sound great!

:thumbleft: :thumbleft: :thumbleft: I agree on the 3" dia. inlet and outlet too, but with a motor the size of yours you may want to go even a little longer than 12" if you can. Volume makes power .... shorty mufflers kill it.
Think of your engine as a big air compressor. Only four cylinders are going to fire on every revolution, but a 5,000 rpm that's a lot of hot exhaust gasses to be moved through two 3" tailpipes.

The 3 inch works on the big inch Cadillac. Ran this past week with a guy who used "Jones Turbine" stainless mufflers. More a straight thru than a turbo but they worked well and looked sweet.

Just be aware if ordering online and your not physically matching things up. There is OD and ID and some applications require one of each. My thru hulls require an ID but the flex pipe mates to an OD.

What style are they JEEP and can you post a pic maybe?

I run a generic stainless turbo and they are awesome but in the salt the welds and low grade stainless do not last forever.

I've been looking at stainless with 4 inch in and out but don't want a big bulky muffler, the Jones turbine mufflers that Swamphunter mentioned do seem to have a nice free flow design and look like a good value. they are about $70.00 each to your door on ebay, I'll probably try a pair soon.
I think the 3 inch were about $60.00 to your door.

A1 runs the Jones bullets they work really well. My generic stainless turbos are very quiet and cheap but in the salt you only get 3-4 years of hard running out of them.

The Jones mufflers don't last that long at all. I've used both and prefer the Magna Flows much better. I've run 4" oval 4" center/ 4" offset out. Now I run round 4" center in/ 4" center our small race can style part # MF14162 there is no difference in noise. I like the small ones better because the 4" flex is a pain to get to bend.

Blu ran a set like that, the metal was really good quality but with his old 509 it was sort of louder rumble than the turbo style. I probably will try MagnaFlo or maybe the Jones on the next go around. Thanks for the pic.
