Kinda curious what you find out. As I have the same carb.

this carb is on an AV 540 and the engine seems to just not be the horse it should be .....knowing what I know now IMO it is not enough carb for that engine to preform properly and needs a 540 carb

If the MA4-5 isn't for an O540, what is the correct carb for the AV540?

first the AV-540 was a fuel injection engine many guys opt out for a carb instead of the FI SO the correct carb for the AV-540 Lycoming is an MA-4-5 for an 0-540...... the 540 versions have a larger throttle bore, throttle valve and venture....easiest way to tell is by the throttle valve (butterfly) stamped number a 14-277 is the 0- 540 carb ...the 14-187 is the other MA4-5 which fits a large variety of engines...this carb has the #187...so imo will not run the AV 540 to its full potential

Still looking for a 10-4404?
If you don't have time to do it right the first time ,
Where are you going to get the time to do it a second time?

I will know the answer to that after I explain all this to the owner to see if he wants to "do it right".....he is also not turning enough prop for his engine......... 70" narrow blade whirlwind on a AV 540...WHAT!!!!

According the information I have, the MA 4-5 10-4404-1, 10-5054, 10-5042, 10-6035-11, and 10-5045 are also designated for the O-540 series engine. The MA-6AA 10-4975, and10-4218-1 are installed on the VO-540 (vertical) engines.
Compromise is failure on the installment plan.
