BALLASTIC GEAR BOX?

Postby gatorfrog2 » Thu Aug 11, 2016 8:46 am

Questions? We recently went with a 2.68 BALLASTIC gear box on a 383 Stroker from Whites performance. 550hp. +/- it's swinging a 82" 3-blade R at the 2.5 mark. Performers Great!!!......BUT

Recently after the first scheduled oil change we are getting sum "NOISE" Clancking / CHURPING etc. seems to only be after box is HEATED UP!!... Running for awhile. We do have the ALL CARBON blades an I know they are a litl noisier but this noise is coming from the box not the engine or the blades. Tried to contact seller but number no longer exist. Contacted d manufacturer an they said they are having sum problems in that department. I'm wondering do we send box back an get it checked out before WARRANTY runs OUT!!?.... Or run it till it BLOWS!!??;0. I'm affriad if there's Un nessasary tolerance / vibration issues it may affect engine bearings etc. HELP!!?? Thanks in advance.

By all means send that sucker in and we'd be glad to take a look at it and see if it's a gear issue or what. Give me a shout any time and I'd be glad to help!

In spite of the fact that I've not run a Ballistic box yet, I'm really glad to see such a prompt response. :salute:

Even before I finished reading that, I was thinking how uncharacteristic that sounded.

Shane, I called all the numbers and still no response back. I'm not having any issues with the box but I don' think the gear ratio is correct for my ride. I have mine pitched at the 3 mark and I still have to turn 3600 rpm to cruise over 30 mph. I don't think the prop is turning fast enough. At 3600 rpm the prop is only turning 1300 rpm. I wonder if a 2.5 or 2.3 would be a better set up for me.

Wow!!! fast response. Thanks for the answers.

I seen the "888" toll free number was listed in a lot of the signatures and what not, that number doesn't work.

If anyone needs to get a hold of me please use this number and leave a message if someone doesn't answer. 785.218.9449

Tim - Let me know what you see for results with a little more pitch in that prop. If it's still not the desired cruise RPM we can look at a lower ratio.

Thank you!

No doubt. Shane is the real deal; truly cares about his business and, most importantly, his customers. I have never had him not call me back for even the most minor issues/questions. If others in this industry had the same mindset, I would have a different motor than I currently do. JS

To be honest if you are
I have mine pitched at the 3 mark and I still have to turn 3600 rpm to cruise over 30 mph
you need to free up your boat unless its 18ft and hauling 6 people them are not good performing numbers.

Is that skinny or deep water? In deep water I turn around 3000 to cruise at 30mph , in skinny a lot less .
