When I had my 520 conversion re built I went with hi comp pistons. I had to put 7 degrees of pitch in the prop to hold it back. But this may be a little extreme bc my engine before re build was never really right.

The difference is between a chimp or a gorilla. Well worth the investment and time spent, plus you will be getting to use the full advantage of 100ll avgas. Where as we don't have access to 87 octane avgas any longer.
I never finish anyth,,,.

The high compression piston most people put in a 520 are 8.5 to 1's correct? I've never heard of a 10.5 to 1 but would expect it to be a beast.

when I built my 520 8 years ago I put 10 .5 to 1 pistons in it. awesome power to say the least. but no aircraft starter would turn it over. when it was all said and done had to make my own start cables and fabricate a flywheel. used a high torque chevy starter from jegs catalog. I dealt with Gibson aviation out of oklohoma
