    Prop Length

How far should the prop extend below the top of the transom? Seems to me that any length below it is wasted due to the fact that no push is generated at that point. Maybe the reflection of the air off the transom back into the prop is no good either? Just a question that popped into my mind...

    Water temp too low?

My 455 buick will not get her temp above 150 degrees. Is this a problem or should I just be fine with it? I thought about blocking off some of the radiator but then I talked myself out of it because I am thinking that cooler has to be better than hotter. Right or wrong?

    Which hull is best?

I am going to put front and rear floor jacks in my boat this weekend and see if that fixes my problem or not. If it does not, I am going to have to buy another hull. Since I know nothing about hulls I would like to get some opinions on aluminum vs. fiberglass. Since I will not be able to run...

    Boat specs.

Some of you will remember that I am new to airboating and that I am having problems getting my boat to plane. I took some measurements to see if any of you can spot a problem by looking at them. My hull is alum. with poly. It measures 80" wide by 15' long. The powerplant is a 1973 Buick 455...

    What's next?

My 455 Buick now has a new Edelbrock carb and intake. I picked up about 200 rpm and lost about 75 lbs. with the new intake. I still have some pitch to put in the prop so I would like to generate some more power and use all the pitch. My boat now seems to run on plane significantly better but...

    More Pitch?

OK. Let's assume I have put a new carb, headers, mufflers and even went as far as to have a new cam built for my direct drive 455 Buick. Before all the "work", I had the pitch set half way between the 2 and 3 mark on both blades and was turning 2800 RPM. When all this new power and torque is...

    Now look what I've done!

I did it. I bought my first airboat and now I am about to pull my hair out trying to figure out what I can and can't do. I bought a good used boat and saved some more money by buying a direct drive setup (bad idea). The boat is a 15'x7 1/2' with new polymer, powered by a stock 455 Buick...

    1st Airboat for hunting.

I am looking for an airboat to use for waterfowl hunting. Due to the drastic drop in our lake levels my current boat is not getting to the ducks despite all my efforts to help it run shallow. I need a solidly built boat to haul decoys a dog and two or three (total) people over mainly mud flats...
