0-300

Just wondering what you guys think a good price is on a 0-300, it runs good and has everything on it minus the carb. The guy wants to keep it. He wants $750 for it and possibly will throw in a brand new three blade adjustable composit prop for an extra $600. Is this a good deal or should I try to talk him down or is this not a good motor? I already have an a-65 just looking to go bigger. Any info would be great.

I have only known two people who had one. Both never had any problems with them. They are cool sounding motors, they sound like a big ole 520 from a ways away. But then when you see them and see how small they are, you have to do a double take. The last one I bought, I paid 800 for, but it had a carb(MA-3). I sold it for 700 without the carb. I like them because they are not that heavy and good for a small boat.

I don't know anything about the O-300, but a composite prop for 600 dollars sounds like the deal would be worth it. Do you know what brand of prop it is?

I have a couple of O-300's and they are a good, smooth running, 145 horse power engine. With the starter and generator or alternator you're going to almost double your weight. The price sounds good and the bottom ends never seem to wear out. The cylinders are the same as the O-200.

For weight to horsepower it's tough to beat the Lycoming O-320 or O-360's but the O-300 is a nice engine.

I ran one on a 10' Gilileo for 11 years, never had problem.Great smooth running motor. The only reason I got rid of it was for a bigger boat with more power.Even sank it a few times and still never had any problems.I was the 3rd owner after it was taken off the plane.Great motor just not alot of power.

I think a buddy might have one of these, his is a 145 hp and it is small.

Don't they have an 8 bolt prop flange or something weird?

Yes, Red, it does have a different flange. No prop bushings like on the Lycoming. 4 inch cross instead of 4 3/4 inch. It has eight holes but only six are used to mount the prop. I have no idea what the other two holes are for. There's a photo of one I'm overhauling in my gallery.

anyone know how to wring more power outta this turd? Can you swap in bigger cylinders like you can with other a/c motors? Or am i better off just staying away from o-300s?

Hey Red Dwarf! 8) It's good to hear from you. I don't imagine that Stinger and Superwide are still sitting in the family room? :( How's it going!!

MavDog, I flew Cessna 172's with the engine and they were real smooth, but I they don't have the bottom end like a O-470, GPU or O-320.

no, it wasn't old. i just added to old thread in archive. there is one of these 0300's on ebay right now for ,i think, 125.00$ everyone has convinced me to steer clear, so if any one else interested.

if you get the geared (GO-300),they make 175hp.but the prop turns backwards.lolmite make ya feel like a car motor guy!
