i noticed a mild popping or misfiring of my 0-360 this morning. it sounds fine until i'm at full power and then pops a little. does anyone know what causes this? thanks! --brian
Maybe an intake leak orrrr.................it's just kickin' up it's heels cause it's just so happy it was born a LYCOMING rather than a Continental or carmotor.
it seems to get a little better after prolonged use at full power. does that help? how do you check for an intake leak? please remember i am not very mechanical. thanks again.
I had that problem with a SV 0540 after a bottom end rebuild and new high compression pistons installed. We put 2 rebuilt carbs on it and it didn't stop. It turned out to be a worn cam.
Spray a little starting fluid or brake klean around the connections on the intake tubes. If the RPMs increase you have a leak. Be careful not to get any fluid in the air intake if the carb though.
my 0-320h does that when i first take off but only if its in the morning, the mag has a bad problem of letting condensation in, and i think the poppin could just be the mag dryin the water out... dont know about yours for sure but it could be...jmo
J00077--i think you have it nailed. one of my mags is acting up and i'm having it looked at as we speak. the boat got rained on heavily the day before and i think the mag got wet. i think when i get the mag fixed, the other problem will go away. thanks!
Starter fluid will also find leaking plug wires! remember STOP DROP & ROLL!   lean, check carb for trash. cold engine needs more fuel so if it lean it pops more than when its hot.
Mine will tend to pop if given too much throttle before the engine is completely heat soaked.
Adding just a little choke stops it so I would look at lean fuel as a potential problem.
