looking at a boat to buy,it has Cont. 0-470 dual mags, larger oil pan, holley 650? carbon 2- blade, cable steering,diamond back hull. Cage is in rough shape, boat has been sitting.Also both horizontal engine stand bars are broke. Hull seems to be in great shape,also has polimar,been sitting on the ground will this affect anything? Motor has not been started for about 1- year. what should i do before start up? also what should i look for after start up? Trailer is also included, and is in fair shape. Hull is 2001, what is a fair price for this boat? Thanks Mike...

Approach a used boat like a wrecked boat.

If you canb see it, inspect it.

If you can get to it, measure it.

Push, pull and tug and shake everything you can get your hands on.

Leak-down comp0ression test, fuel pressure test, mag sparks? Battery cables, switches, gages, tack n cable, Throttle pedal and cable, rudder bearings, bushings, control rod ends, bilge pump, trim tab test, lights. Measure alternator output.

This is only a partial, ya still need to look at the hull, plastic, screws, rivets etc.

Should keep ya busy for a while. Get a knowledgable frined to go with you to check it out. If you dont know airboats you can end up in really bad shape. Even pay someone in the business to check it out if you have to. Don't try to go it alone.

Thanks Scotty,im pretty mech inclined,but dont know much about aircraft motors, whats the compression on 1 of these motors?.if motor checked out ok and every thing else was in good shape whats a fair price?? aprox.... Thanks...
