0360 carb

I recently learned that the carb I currently have installed on my 0360 AV is not the correct carb. The one I have has an altitude compensation bulb that is supposed to control the lean Rich automatically rather than being able to adjust it. I’ve found that it runs ok with this carb but I’m sure it’s not performing optimal for my engine. Question I have is what can I do with this carb to get optimal performance or should I get another carb designed and sized for my engine and if so does anyone out there have a good used carb for an 0360 AV?? Any help would be appreciated!
 
Sounds like you have an MA-6, get a new set of spark plugs for the top, get the engine warmed up, do a wide open throttle pull for about 30 seconds, shut it down with little to no idle time, pull the top plugs and read the color of the insulators, white is lean, dark is rich, light tan is optimum.
If lean, the "aneroid" is adjustable, and is virtually your main jet size, just have to tweak it till you get the nice light tan burn from a wide open run up.
Gotta keep in mind, these are glorified tractor carburetors, can be tuned to any application so to speak.

I spoke to someone yesterday and they said crank it up and warm it up then do a wide open pull and lean it out fully while wide open and check the RPM rise when it dies. If more than 75 RPM then it’s rich, less than 75 and it’s lean. How do I adjust the aneroid?

Gotta pull the carb, separate bowl from main body, there is a plate or "cage" that holds the aneroid down, pull that screw out, the aneroid will pry up, loosen locking nut and rotate in for lean, out for rich, re snug lock nut install, run up again.
The theory of the lean out and 75 rpm variant,, NO!!!
Plug color is safest bet.

The 25-75 rpm change at shutdown is to adjust idle mixture, performed while the engine is idling. I agree with mr. Fenner about the plug color test.
