0470 GPU's and oil leaks

Are the 0470 GPU's prone to slight oil leaks ?? I have a "fresh build" that is leaking a few drops after say two hours hard running. The oil is coming from the front of the motor where a small round 2" in diameter pipe goes back into the oil pan. Sorry, but I don't know what it's called. I simply wrap a rag around the area to catch the oil.

No leaks at any other area thus far...

After talking to some folks at the boat ramp, all have commented on how these type engines leak oil now and again... I don't think that's right... is it??

I'm a car motor boater (at this point in time) but I can summarize what I've seen posted here about this...

Those motors are usually setup in a situation where the throttle is mostly locked (or moved very little/slowly) A generator, an airplane, etc. On an airboat, the throttle is up and down A LOT by comparison. When the throttle is moved the two halves of the crankcase will slide ever so slightly from the torque of the motor. This action lets some oil out after awhile.

There are numerous fixes. Silicone, modifying your driving habits, and so on... All the way to dealing with it - by way of a nice little joke. You know when a decent joke is made, it's an alright and common deal.

If you did a search here using the term OIL LEAK it'd bring all those old posts.

Did I get that right?

:)

Thanks to all the replied... you all have echoed what others have said. So far, my leak is barely a leak and a rag has solved the problem.

Thanks again.

My most profound memory of being an aircraft mechanic(recips) well one of the most profound ones anyways ... is that we always had a 200lb fire extinguisher on wheels when we shut down one because they often caught on fire from the oil that had leaked out of them. It is quite a sight.
