0470 rebuild question

Floridaquaker, JC Stanley could probably give you that info. His # is 407-927-9701. I have a friend in coral springs who runs an 0470 on a thurman style deckover. There are also some good engine builders in broward also.

This motor has been sitting for so long it might have to be a complete overhaul.....The boat is mine if I want it but there is a possibility that I might either be getting into a fire department down her or moving to either ocala or orlando....Its going to be another month or two before I find out and I dont want to do anything with the boat until then

Most of the machanics i have talked to wont even give me a ball park price until they look at it but I dont want to have them rip it apart until I know I can afford to have it put back together

Have you even checked the motor out yourself ?? Just because it has been sitting dont mean that much, all those motors sat in a warehouse for 10-15 years rebuilt before they were sold to the public at auction. The last motor I bought in the shroud had a rebuild tag for 1988 and I got it in 1999.

Remove the spark plugs, squirt some oil in the cylinders, turn it over by hand a few times, put the spark plugs back in and fire it up. After you get it running check the compression and if it is good, go to the Glades and drive it like you stole it.

Have you applied at Palm Beach County Fire Rescue ? They hire 30 at a time. It helps if you have the blue patch. If you dont they will send you to school on there dime.

FQ, Call JC he has done me right and knows his continentals. If you move to orlando you won't be disappointed. Plenty of good runnning here. My friends from CS love it up here. They come up here to duck hunt and shoot snipe on the river every year!

I know it wont crack for sure..thats the reason why the motor has been sitting for so long....still has the oil in it from the last time it ran and has been uncovered......it broke down and my friends spet mom pretty much said screw it so it been sitting and they offered it to me

pretty much it needs a rebuild......I just cant commite to a project just yet

I have been looking at palm beach county and the next time they hire is in November soI plan on applying

10-4 then to answer your initial question the rebuild should not cost more than $1500-$1800 because that is the price you will pay for one right out of the shroud. Don C in Frostproof and Jim Lauderdale in Ocala have these right out of the shroud. Good luck .

I got another question.....say I do decided to take on this project I am going to need a prop.....I was thinking a powershift or whirlwind.....needs some help....trying to plan everything out so I can get a total project price
