0540 points/condensers?

I'd like some advise. Last time I ran my boat (2wks ago) I left the switch on with the mags hot after I leaned it out on the trailer (I know-I know) after riding. Didn't catch it for about 5 minutes---then switched everything off.

Engine wouldn't start today. I assume (I know-I know) the points must have been just in the right spot and fried??? My boys got cold tonight fooling with it so I'll go ahead and pick up some points tomorrow (need to keep spares anyway) and check it out when it's warmer.

Should I replace the condensers also? What is the gap on the points?

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you :(  :?: :

Leaving the mags on will not harm a magneto ignition. There is no voltage until it turns or the slick start/shower of sparks is activated.

You did not hurt it that way.

Moisture in the mags?

You did check for spark right?

Thanks RD. I didn't know that. Just figured I screwed up. I thought if the ignition and mag switches were on, there would be fire to the points. That's good news ( I guess). It's never failed to start and was running soooo good the last time I ran it. I'll check further tomorrow when it's warmer. Thanks for the help.

After you use a spark tester (or a spark plug and some vise grips) to confirm that you are not getting spark, I'd try drying the mags our with a hair dryer or a heat gun and try again.

If you are getting spark, then it's probably a fuel problem, which could be simple like water in fuel or trash in the carb's needle and seat, or a failed fuel pump diaphragm etc

I knew I couldn't sleep knowing my airboat wouldn't crank. Braved the cold and got my headlight out. I am getting fire. Plugs are bone dry. Elec pump builds pressure and fuel/water seperater bowl is clear. Guess the fuel isn't getting by the manual pump? :?:
