#1 Scatergun

Whats your #1 scattergun for webfoot quackers?
I always liked the old 870 ,12ga. but I got a new
Browning BPS, I'll have to see how that works.

I have been using my Grandfathers model 12 Winchesters for years and they work great both are full choke

K-mac, Quackcephus and I had this discussion last week. I think the best scattergun is one that makes you feel real comfortable.

I've shot Model 12 Winchesters (which kick the crap out of me), 870's (which are as reliable as an anchor), Browning BT99's and Citori's, Perazzi's (trap only), a Mossberg (disposable shotgun), a Charles Daily (very nice weapon), and a borrowed Krieghoff for another trap round.

Quack has a new Berretta which I would love to try. I've always heard that they're a real sweet shooter.

But if you and I were out at 5am tomorrow morning, I'd be packin' my old 1100 Rem. We understand each other, and if that duck don't drop it won't be the gun's fault :) . Let me know how you like that new BPS.

It's been a while since i have duck hunted, When I was stationed in Yorktown Va, I was really into it. Being a poor sailor I used my old old 12 ga double barrel. It's a little heavy but it ain't never jammed!!!! I have a 870 for my boys to use. You can drop a dime down the right barrel, but the dime will hang up in the left. Of all the weapons that I have, 9 out of 10 times I'll take the double barrel. It just feels good. And bye the way, when I go duck hunting I always carry a slug, buckskot and #4's with my duckloads. I can shift from killen green to what ever real quick!!!!!

Man some of those boy's in Va will drop $2500 on a shotgun without blinking.

Hey Sniper, Model 12 is my choice of gun also. However, I was advised by some gunsmiths not to use them with steel shot. Have you heard any concerns there. I have two 12 gauges and a 16, all modified chokes. I've been using my 870 but would love to go back to my model 12's.

Let me offer a word of caution. A few years back I bought a Benelli Nova Pump. For the first few months it was fine, but soon became plagued by jams and misfires. I sent it off to Benelli and they promptly fixed it and returned it to me. They told me it just needed cleaning. B.S., I know how to clean a gun and that wasn't it. Anyway, it was good for a month or so and then started jamming and misfiring all over again. I lost count of how many ducks and geese it cost me. Instead of sending it back again, I bought a Mossberg auto. Problem solved. Go Mossberg. Good ole American manufacturing.

I'm not a big shotgunner, but over the years I have had several that I had either inherited or bought. A Savage on the Browning Patent high square back. A marlin pump, a Win 99 Cornsheller but the old Fox Double barrel 12 Ga was about as sweet a shooter as I ever had.

Started the kids with Rossi 20 Ga rabbit eared Double barreled coach guns. Was the only soultion to twins. One is right handed the other a lefty. Did the job for their first scatter guns.

Scotty, I'm a big fan of 20 ga. shotguns. I think they're very under rated. When I shot skeet I used a 20 because it was so light and agile .... a Browning Citori over/under double. And a good 20 ga. with a slug barrel is a devastating weapon. Check the caliber on one of them sometime.

One I've always wanted was the SKB Ithaca side by side double. Sweet little shotguns. Very nicely made too.

Well I must admitt my Super Black Eagle Eagle II is the sweetest shooting gun I have ever shot. I have hunted with Browning, Remington, Mossberg, And Winchester but I must say that the Bennelli fit me perfect out of the box and needed no adjustments. That's JMO after all it has more to do with the shooter than the gun in the end.

Armond, if a gun don't fit ya you'll never be happy with it. I have a love affair with this beat up old 1100 Rem. of mine just because it fits. It just jumps to my shoulder. My sons don't enjoy it the way I do, and my youngest shoots an 870 that I can't hit anything with. Go figure.

Guns, like airboats, are the best when they fit.

Yeah your right Olf, I have a 1100 and an old 870 here on the wall but fit makes all the difference in the world.

My biggest battle now is trying to get my wife to stop saying no more guns, gotta have my guns. Maybe she'll let me get a few more hear and there if I'm good.

The guns were put on hold. Then the big truck upgrades. Next were the boat upgrades.

Then she said "honeyyyyy we can't afford your beer, your going to have to give it up."

In a moment of bravery I pointed out that she had just spent $60 for makeup. To which she replied....."I need the makeup to make myself look pretty for you"

To which I replied, "Thats what the beer was for!"

I don't think she is coming back.

Sniper, thanks for reply. I haven't used the bismouth yet, maybe I'll have to give it try. I really like model 12's.

Around here saying a Mossburg is disposable would be asking for trouble! I simply stated that I had a Mossburg 20 ga that I didn't like and half the folks I was shooting clays with copped an attitude! I also have an Ithaca mod 37 feather weight which is as good a shotgun as made, but it doesn't fit me very well,so I can't hit birds or clays well enough to carry it. I do have a Saiga 20 ga auto which looks quiet radical but will do awsome work on clay targets. I'd use it on doves but I can't seem to restrict the capacity of the clips to two rounds. The long AK47 type action really takes the recoil out of this gun, just a gentle push!

I have a Browning BPS. I bought it for duck hunting back in 1987. It came with a varible choke tube barrel. Although I haven't hunted with it in years now it was always reliable and I still let a buddy of mine use it to go turkey hunting every year.
