12' boat with 500 caddie

I am thinking about buying a 12' boat with a 500 caddie dd.I am looking for some insight on how this boat might perform and handle and if it would run dry or not? :?

it will more than likely torque really hard and put the corner under water and sink unless the boat is deep side and about 8 ft wide should run dry with no problem

What type of hull is it? Is it a deck over? I have a 14 ft alum. with a 500DD and have no problem with it but a 12 ft fiberglass would scare me a little.

The hull looks like a small rivermaster but I think the guy said it was a Pemberton hull. It's not a deckover and its looks to have reasonably high sides for a 12' boat.I wonder if I put a gear drive on it would that eliminate the torque problem?and make a reasonably good performing and handling boat?

i have a 12ft hull with a 350 and a rotator and its 7.5 wide and has 26in deep sides and it dose alright it was driect drive for 2 years then i put the rotator on and now there is 3 times the torque than before but it handles good and sets good in the water.still want a bigger hull.bigger is better

Well I went and took alook at this boat and it turns out that the guy didnt know what engine he had.It is a small block 400 with a 72-32 wood paddle prop on a 12' rivermaster hull.I ran the engine on the trailer and it ran excellant but the tach. was inop. so I couldnt tell excactly what rpms it was turning. It seemed to be turning about 2500 but had been sitting awhile and the secondarys on the carb would not open and it started raining on us before I had time to tinker with it and get them to open up.My main concern is has anyone out there had any luck getting a dd small block chevy combo to run dry worth a flip, and if anyone thinks this setup would. The engine is pretty fresh I dont know whats in it but it has a performer alum. intake new stainless headers and the clear coat hasnt even worn off the erosion strips on the prop yet.Any ideas on how this boat might perform would be appreciated :?
