220 gpu rpm question

setting pitch on trailer. motor goes up to 2500 rpms stops for a few seconds drops ~100 rpms then goes to 2800 rpms and holds fine. took it off the trailer and does same thing. as soon as its 2800 it breaks loose and goes all over the yard. any idea of this hesitation? would love for it to go straight to 2800 rpms. checked plugs they are perfect color. single mag 220 with zentith carb. full rebuild.

Sounds like it is too rich at idle and then it clears out, you may have slight intake leaks that fat idle circuits are compensating for, a bit of brake cleaner, non chlorinated of course will find the leak.

Definitely a fuel issue, if what John said doesn't fix the issue check you fuel lines, had one that didn't leak but sucked air, good luck.

All fuel line and pump and filter is brand new. I got a video of it today if I can figure out how to post it

If you hear a whistle you have an intake leak, you state a new overhaul, I have made mistakes, you need to check intake tubes, flanges for leaks, the only thing else from what you describe is timing.
