I have weighed about 20 of them in all different configurations. I will post a pic of a standard one with a stock oil pan and a Holley carb. Everyone gets mad about this but it's what they weigh so please don't shot the messenger!
Depending on how you finish the engine it could easily hit that 500 pound mark. The engine itself is 378 pounds without a starter, flex plate, alternator and brackets, prop adapter, exhaust pipes and oil. Goldhunter is correct about it being a great engine for a low cost and easy to work on. The bottom oil pan weighs 23 pounds. So, it's on the heavy side.
I've got two 220 GPU's and I've never found bad rings in any of the 12 cylinders. The 12 cylinders were all pitted and needed to be replaced. Tom Jeffords can get you the best price on rebuilt cylinders with new chrome bore for $250 each. That includes his labor and new rings. Replace them one or two at a time and it doesn't seem to hurt as bad as buying all six at once.
I've been calling all around today trying to find him a deal on a A/C. Let's help a brother out! If anybody has a gpu or 180 for a good deal speak up. I'm excited about his new little deck over. it need to be stout. he wants to kill the hill. This not a PR stunt shhhh i like A/C's too.
