220 GPU

I have a chance to buy a very low time or zero time 470 GPU for $500, I have a 500 cadillac on the boat now but havent finshed it. what I want to know is what do i need to do to get it ready to run, do I need a prop adapter? an what pitch prop is best? and how is the starter rigged up? do they use a automotive starter and fly wheel? does it need to run on rubber mounts or solids? well thanks all I probably got a million questions but a the big boys down at the poolhall told me it dont hurt to ask LOL

the best way to go is buy it all in a kit ready to bolt on it will cost about the same as your paying for the engine but every thing you need starter alt prop adaptor bolt on brakets belt theres two good ones but cant recall there names someone will chime in with that imfo im sure or look at airboat trader in the services section.

$500 for a low hour 470 isnt a bad price at all. i had rubber mounts on mine, but as far as starter kits go, you can use car or aircraft. i had a Mitsubishi starter that worked fine.

unfortunately those engines consume lots of oil....The best way to fix this is to chrome the cylinders..Thay put a choke in the cylinder like aircraft..It works

If you change your mind about the GPU let me know and I'll come down and get it. I would love to have a spare to convert to dual mag and O-470 cylinders.

that would make an awesome little project to have. you're right about them using oil. the funniest way i heard it put was a gpu is a car motor guy's best friend when he's following behind him on dry ground.

You all must have worn out GPU's mine uses a qt about every other weekend with 10 hrs run time...............

yea a fresh gpu is realy a great engine if anybodys are using that much oil then there also down on hp jug em and youll be amazed

hey thanks, I been lookin at pictures of airboats for sale think i am getting the picture on whats needed, its gonna be like filling my truck bed with 100 dollar bills and shoveling them into a hungry mouth lol. I am a duster pilot with A&P license an i swear it would cheaper to build a airplane lol but I need this boat up an running for a research expedition in the deep woods of east Texas so all i can do is start shoveling. Thanks
