NPS tells of emmediate plans for this to be torn down, board by board, then all hauled out by airboat.

Your tax dollars hard at work saving something, that was supposed to be saved for just such tradtional uses in the first place.

why? did they not maintain the lease??? if there is a will there is a way. they cant take it away unless they did not maintain the lease or the they did not comply with dep requirements. there are two camp 23's. one known as the tower camp owned by cindy soulier, and a camp called camp 23 owned by david powell. this may be old info so dont quote me.

its a shame to lose even 1 camp

Sorry Tropical.
That is not camp 23. It a camp on the eastern edge of Big Cypress. The Buzzards Roost. Camp's been there 25 or 30 years.
It's a couple hundred yards inside the Boundary. They been trying to git it gone for 20yrs. Looks like they are gonna do it this time. That camp, and some others as well.

Not a new tale. They cleaned out most all the buggy camps years ago. Still a few of those left, who were able to manage to survive.

Big Cypress Public Meeting Notice

Preserve Seeking Public In-put on Turner River Unit Trails

Big Cypress National Preserve is moving forward with implementation of the
ORV Plan through on-going designation of primary and secondary ORV trails
within the Turner River Unit.

As part of this process you are invited to attend a scoping meeting at the
Preserve Headquarters (located on U.S. 41 four miles east of S.R. 29) on
9/13/2007 between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

As a point of reference, ORV trails are designated via criteria outlined in
the ORV Management Plan, including: designate trails to specific
destinations; avoid or minimize user conflicts; and avoid or minimize
safety hazards. We invite your input on ORV access within the Turner River
Unit.

The Turner River Unit is located east of Turner River Road, west of the
Florida Trail, north of U.S. 41 and south of I-75 and the Addition Lands
(refer to map below).

If you have any questions related to this announcement please contact Bob

that blows about the camp being tore down. Most of those guys out there do more to perserve that place then anyone else. I don't know any camp member or owners who pollute, litter or wantingly destroy the habitat. Usually if you see a beer can anywhere its from a daytripper. Of course trying to make the goverment see that is dern near impossible. such is life.

Hey cowboy were is this camp exactly, you said east of the park boundry my camp is literally 21 yards from the survey marker ?

Yeah,
It's about 300 yards west of the line, into the eastern edge of the Big Cypress.
Up in the North end of the Marsh.

What really ticks me off is that these camp aren't accessed through the big cypress. Never were. Nor do they afford people easy access to the big cypress lands.
They ain't hurting a thing.... never have.
These guys have been in there about 18 years, and got nothing but respect for the lands out there.

I'm sure you already understand that Boss, but many others reading this probably do not.

I got word that they let two delivery drivers through the gate, hauling forty yrd dumpsters. This camp, and perhaps four more are slated for immediate tear-out, with more North-end west of the line camps to come later.

Just got more news.
7 NPS in the marsh, and 7 on the levee.
Airboats in the marsh tripping materials back, trackhoes, and dumpsters on the levee.

Tearing them out board by board.

Lesters, the Buzzards Roost, and the Sawmill under the gun first.
More supposedly to follow.

Think it's a little more work than they anticipated.

Down here NPS will not stop until certain people are eventually eliminated from their managed lands. Destroying camps is the most effective way to do that and they wont pass up a chance to do so.

Camps are hubs that draw people to them , eliminate the camp and most of the group is gone from the area. I've seen too many old aquaintences and friends just give up on the Cypress because of the Park Service's rules and regulations .

The ORV plans implementation is one of the main reason for the drop in numbers .
The one mile north and south tamiami trail no ORV buffer is designed to keep us out view from the nature watchers and roadside tourist.

We use to have buggy access from the trail ,just park and go back then ,now we are forced to use a few access points and crowd each other during peak use.

Theres also a possible ORV fee increase for next year , yet to be confirmed.

Destroying a culture one board at a time if need be.

Never ending BS .

How much more of this crap being shoved down our throats will we take?

Maybe we can talk Crist into succeeding from the North.

they could seek an attorney for squatters rights but not sure how that even works. When I got my real estate license 14 years ago they covered it but ah be darned if I remember it.
