3D without the glasses...

I've had an idea in my head the past few months.... Out on Lake George this past weekend I had a chance to experiement with it a little.......
3D photographs.

With some Mother's Day experimenting on family with a printout of these photos, about 75% of those who tried could see the 3D effect. I personally believe ANYONE can sucessfully see them, it's just a matter of relaxing your eye muscles and having control over your mind (which is trying to tell you this is impossible).

Trust me, it is VERY POSSIBLE, and the results are AMAZING!

At first, I'll give little instruction other than to say that it's easiest to cross your eyes, and concentrate on the center photo (which appears when you cross your eyes). If you wear glasses, try it with and without them. I prefer to view the photos with my reading glasses.

The rest, I'd like to just let you give it a try, and in a while, I'll post a little more in the ways of tips for "getting it".

Give it a shot. Don't try too hard. It's very easy. If your eyes hurt, take a break, relax and overcome it. You will be using muscles in a way which is not damaging, just different. It can take a little getting used to. But once you "get it" you will have a new window to the world!

If you see it, offer your tips on how you got there.

The effect is AMAZING.

At Loughman Lodge this weekend, I'm going to take some 3D photos of some nice looking motors and some other ideas I've got. I'll post the results soon after.

Who has control over their mind to tell it to do the "impossible"????? Because it IS POSSIBLE!!!!!!

Please post with comments if you can or cannot view these.

evidently not everone can see it mood so heres a trick that might work .Point an index finger straight up pointing between the two pictures just in front of your nose. While looking at the tip of your finger move your finger ever so slowly toward your screen at a precise distance a 3d picture will appear at the tip of your finger preaty neat the best one to look at is the shore seen not the boat.Looks just like the pictures in the 3d veiwers we had in school in the 60's.

Stan, you are truly a GENIUS!!! I had a hard time getting it before, but that way works great! Thanks!

Here is another one:

3d_motor.jpg

This is the kind of photo I want to get at Loughman's this weekend.... of a GOOD looking motor. LOL

The composition of the photo has a lot to do with the effect of the 3D. When the photo of Laura relaxing in the boat was in full resolution on my fairly large screen, it had the detail to show the 3D effect. Most of that effect was in the motor & cage. This recent photo I just zoomed in on that area.

I wish there was a way to show two hi-rez pics side by side on the computer. Printing them out and mounting them on some foam-core is the only way to really get that image quality.

That is a GREAT tip Stan!!! You never cease to amaze me. The focusing on your finger tip worked great for me too. It's an easy way to "train" your eyes to see it.

Here's another tip:
At the top of every photo see the dot (I used a gator in this recent one). Cross your eyes so you see 4 dots, then make the center two line up on top of each other. Tilting you head a little can help "twist" the alaignment. When you have the "3" dots, under the center dot will be the 3D image.

After doing this for a couple days now, looking at lots of these, my eyes are getting trained and my mind is getting much more consious control over the eye muscles. It's MUCH easier now. I no longer need the dots or finger, I just blur it out for a second and it appears.

Here are some more photos in 3D from the Saturday S/A ride...

I've got a really good one of Waterthunder's boat... I ran out of time to work on it for tonight. More to come.

I also found that it helps to tilt your head one way or the other to get the little gators as one.also it looks like cc has a boat polishing job in progress, watcha using cc?

Here's a couple more....

Jeff Lesarra's mini-boat the 'Skeeter Hawk' at the Quiet Airboat Show.

Note that Jeff's arm is in different positions between the two shots. Taking photos of Landscapes or inanimate objects like boats is easy because they do not move between the two photos. Taking a hot of people is different because they need to stand still for the two photos. (There was only about a second, maybe two between shots)

Still more 3D photos in the cooker. :)
