4 Blade vs 5 Blade

I just got a hold of a 4 blade hub for my Warp.

Should I bother trying it out as a 4 blade? Can't I just adjust the pitch for the RPM I want and be done? Or is there a hidden advantage to 4 baldes.

It seems to me the 5 blade might be a little quieter....

Thoughts?

Red if that was the case everyone would run two blades and just adjust the pitch. or in the reverse everyone would run 30 blades and adjust the pitch. They have never built a standard warp drive prop that is quiet that is why they are called weedeaters. They will work good for you actually and if you went with the stacked set then they may be quieter and still provide what you want. just bolt it on and do a thrust test as outlined on here and see what you get.

I had a 4 blade on a 12x7 full deck alum 220 ground power with angle valve cylinders that Hoffman built and he talked me into a 4 blade. The 4 blade was ok but when I put a 5 blade on the boat, it really came alive. Personally I would throw the 4 blade hub away and run the 5 blade. Just my 2 cents.

Red maybe you can stack the four hub on the five hub and start a new trend in prop design ... seriously anyone ever tried it .. help him out here

I don't see a way to do that without machining a new center hub plate...

If I only had a mill, I could make all kinds of different Warp Drive hubs.

The guy I got the 4 blade hub from also had a 6 blade "Bowtie" hub. It moved the blades together in pairs (3 pairs of two). That one must not have worked too well as he only ran it for a couple days and I haven't seen another one.

I think I may run the 4 blade while I send off the 5th blade to be redone (it has a nick in the leading edge) I guess then I'll post the results for future reference.

Red - I thought someone else here had a bowtie and really like it. In fact I think there was a post about it. Two sets of hubs stack slightly out of line with warp drive blades. Shoot - you got the thing, try it out. But remember, the fellow might not like the blades, but it could be something else on the rig.

A 5 wide-blade Sensenich has been proven to work well, stacked with 4 Power Shift Falcons on a counter-rotator from what I hear ;) And I know that Warps get WAY quieter when the trailing edge is radiused. The only thing I dislike about 5 blade hubs is balance. Take it from someone who was part of damaging a blade....Kinda nice to remove 1 more and still make it home.

Is this the prop you are talking about

this is a 6 blade turbo warp drive they also make a 4 blade like this and a 8 blade and maybe more

Nope, the Bowtie hub keeps all the blades inline, just moves them together in pairs

More so than the leading edge?

Are you saying if you have an even bladed prop, to remove two blades so it is balanced? Like if I use a 4 blade and damage one, just remove it and the opposing blade and make it home on 2 blades?
