454 thermostat

I have a friend with a bored and stroked 454 on his 15 foot alumatech boat and he is having cooling issues. He has been told to remove the thermostat by another boater locally but it seems to me you need to keep it to slow the water flow to cool it. maybe switch from 190 to 160 or something like that would be better. What do you guys think.

Put a restrictor plate in it, that will slow the flow down.

You can remove the center of the thermostat and will work best.

Elviswho,

Quick! Tell him to pull the t-stat before...

Mine stuck, blew out the gasket between the pump and backing plate, lost all the coolant into the bildge. Yeah I was wishing I had an aircraft engine that day but was luck enough to be at the ramp still!

Moroso makes a nice 3 piece universal kit, think I got mine at discount parts.

thanks for the info. he is going to try it with the center punched out of the thermostat and go from there.
