500 cad dd or 220

id have to agree, if we are talkin off the crank. no reduction, thats not even thinkin of the wt. savings

They are so vastly different that you can't fairly compare them on the same hull. The GPU would be for a smaller hull, lighter built and overall lighter weight. Your Caddy would be the ticket for a larger hull, longer hull, heavier hull.

If you rigged both hulls super light as you would for the GPU then the Caddy wouldnt perform because its weight and power would constantly be deforming the hull and and degrading performance. If both were on the heavier hull built for the Caddy, then the GPU is at a disadvantage and wont perform to its best abilities.

If ya got the bigger heavier hull go with the Car Motor, if ya got a lighter smaller hull, go with the GPU.

In the last analysis, its all up to what YOU want YOUR boat to do.

Scotty

WHITE I HAD A 220 ON A 1991 13 FT PANTHER HULL IT WAS A TANK.AND THE 220 PERFORMED VERY WELL ON IT.IT TOOK 4 PEOPLE TO TURN IT OVER TO PUT POLYMER ON IT.IT RAN THE HILL EXCELLENT I DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS BECAUSE IT HAD LESS FLAT BOTTOM THAT A HAMMANT OR DIAMONDBACK DO.I COULD PUT TWO 200 POUND MEN WITH TWO WOMEN AND A LOADED COOLER ON IT AND RUN ANYWHERE I WANTED TO GO.I COULD START AN THE GROUND WITH NO PROBLEMS .I DID HAVE A SENSENICH THREE BLADE H ON IT.NOW BEFORE I PUT THAT PROP ON IT I HAD A WOOD 72 X 42 ON IT.IT WOULD RUN THE HILL GOOD BUT IF I STOPPED SOME ONE WOULD HAVE TO WIGGLE THE NOSE TO TAKE OFF.AFTER IT STARTED TO MOVE THEY COULD JUMP ON AND OFF WE WERE WITH NO PROBLEM.HAVE ANOTHER BUDDY WITH A HEAVY ROUND SIDED DECK OVER WITH A 220 AND HAS NO PROBLEMS.ANOTHER FRIEND BOUGHT A ALL 190 DIAMONDBACK BOAT WITH A 220 IT WAS 12 X 7 WITH 20" SIDE AND THAT BOAT WOULD TAKE TWO MEN DRY ANYWHERE.

Been thinking 13ft cotton mouth hull or diamond back . Possibly a 14ft. hull. I really like the red c/m 350. But ya,ll beening the experts recommend the 220 for a first boat .( so I'm really looking that way but still torn on the 350 reduced) Also I love the 12ft boats with a 180 on them but my family is a little big . but more often than not it will be just my wife and I.Till I have some stick time & feel comfortable to take kids along from time to time and 12 maybe a little small. But from what I seen as a kid when I lived in Okeechobee them little 180's will get it done like a big dog. But still wondering about a 500/220 on hulls mentioned.

i would say comparitivly the same.i have a friend of mine( jamie adams)who has almost identical airboat to mine he has a 220 and had a dd caddy.they both performed about the same.although i believe his boat performen just a smidgeon better than mine did on the ground.
