5200 sealant

Read the MSDS. It will list the hazardous ingredients. If xylene is on the list, try that.

Why?
 
5200 cannot be thinned with good results. If your trying to seal rivets or aluminum seams in a airboat/boat the 3M Skotchkote Electrical Coating works the best. This coating is used by a long list of boat builders.
 
I use weldwood contact cement, 20 years later, knock out rivets, you have to pry the stringer from the hull.

Agreed. Thinning it any at all will deplete its' useful attributes exponentially.
By the time you attained paint viscosity it will have been rendered completely useless.

Again, what is your application? There is something for nearly any need.
 
in the back of that old jon boat I widened I get quite a few leaks from the ribs sticking down
and no welding on each one at the end of the rib
on the original part of the boat they cut the rib bent it over and welded it
but I used the wrong kind of aluminum and you can't weld it so I am trying to stop the leaks filling about 1" in on the rib
but it doesn't stop it from leaking
 
A kid used cool seal, and ran a rotted out old hull for 2 years, didn't leak a drop, I opened the back deck and shook my head while condemning it for repair, you can thin it with water to spray it or brush it, it will stop your leak, used it on a leaky transom once, sealed it right up.
 
KoolSeal is water based elastomeric roof paint. If it works, a silicone roof paint would work even better. Water based elastomeric paints are for roofs that have good drainage. The silicone roof paints are used when there is insufficient pitch and ponding water. Makes sense, if it seals a metal roof, it will seal an aluminum boat.

My neighbor believed all the commercial hype and patched his kicker boat with Flex Seal and it still is holding afaik.
That might just be your best bet. :dontknow:

They make quite an array of products by this point in time, I had no idea.
Faced with your situation, I think that is what I would try.

got all of the old 5200 buffed and sanded off and am ready to put new 5200 on all spots needed so will do that today heck it lasted 3 years without much problem so seems to me I should try it again
