I GOT SOME 0540 UP STACK ANGLE VALVE CYLS FOR SOME MONEY OWED TO ME.MY QUESTION IS,ARE THE WORTH ANYTHING?I`V HAD THEM ON AIRBOAT TRADER FOR A WHILE AND ONLY GOT 1 HIT.I EVEN WENT DOWN ON THE PRICE TO GET RID OF THEM,BUT THE GUY WANTED TO KNOW IF THEY WERE LONG OR SHORT JUGS,AND I DON`T HAVE A CLUE WHAT HE`S TALKING ABOUT.I`M A CAR MOTOR GUY,NEVER HAD AN AIRCRAFT BEFORE,DON`T KNOW A THING ABOUT THEM.IF SOME ONE COULD TELL ME THE DIFFRENCE,I`D SURE APPRECIATE IT

Value runs all the way from boat anchors to about $350.00 apiece for airworthy jugs.

Are the valve cover front square or wider at the base. That will make them either parallel or angle valve cylinders.

There is also difference in the base stud arrangements, for either wide or narrow valve style.

What shape are they in? Are they used? Have they been rehoned. Are they oversized? Are they beyond limits? Are there cracks in the head (look hard around the inside of spark plug hole and between the valves). Do the valve guides and seats need reworking? It will all make a difference as to what they are worth. If they are within limits but need reworking (valve seat ground, rehoned bore, etc.) they may be worth anywhere from $50 to maybe near $250 apiece.

Remember you can get cylinders ready to install for about $325.00 each (or you used to) and I know at least $375.00 you can get airworthy jugs.

It might be worth trying to look up a aircraft or airboat shop somewhere to get them to look them over.

THEY CAME FROM TEAGER AVIATION IN OK.I TALKED TO HIM AND HE TOLD ME THEYWERE STD STEEL BORE,AND THE COMP.WAS 71/80-73/80.
THEY ARE UP STACK EXHAUST AND THEY ARE DEFINATLY ANGLE VALVE,WITH VALVES IN THEM.WOULD 75.00EA BE TO MUCH TO ASK?OR SHOULD I PITCH THEM

I would think they would be worth $75.00 if in good shape. Or if you are in Florida, get in touch with a few of the airboat suppliers, they may be interested.

Or just offer them for less until someone bites. That way you might get some of your money.

THANKS PAT,I LIVE ABOUT 25 MILES OR SO FROM CLASSIC AND DIAMOND BACK,I`LL GIVE THEM BOTH A CALL.idea:
THANKS FOR THE INFO

Look at Airboat trader as well. There are several guys selling lycoming parts there. A phone call or two may get you in touch with someone who knows what things are worth or might want to buy them from you.

Junior Jurnigan's Engines does all the Lycoming engine work for Diamondback. Don't have his address handy, but he is in Florida, phone # 813-752-9214, and has a solid reputation (I like his work). It would be worth a trip by his place for his opinion if it is close by.

If I was closer I would be interested.

Good Luck, Pat
