750 Hp Continental IO 550

Its Continental engine makes 750 horsepower (559kW)—more than twice the stock rating—thanks to a pair of custom Turbonetics 76mm turbochargers (one for each bank), sophisticated ADI, and a system which employs spray bars to spray coolant on the cylinders. The hot-rodded IO-550 runs 75-plus inches of manifold pressure (3-bar of boost, or 25-30 PSI).

Tried and true method used since WW2 :toothy7:

Of course, if you put 30 psi (and the right size turbos) to a 550 inch big block GM engine it would make 2000hp.

just saying! :angel4: :stirpot:

"sophisticated ADI" come on....its meth injection. So cutting edge!! Not..

Love how "news" articles are most of the time recycled info for generations that don't know of the past.

Still a cool article and engine. It would make a mean, but heavy, engine on a boat!

Gator,

You need to make those same mods to your A/C engine and go run the hill for 5 miles. It would be cool to watch the results.
5 miles of dry is a typical morning as is. 260 Hp is plenty to run the hill all day and I have no interest in running 400 MPH, so I will probably pass.

Ya'll seem to be missing a key point in the article, being CM guys I can understand. Besides the cooling air flow at 400 MPH, Methanol injection cools the motor from the inside and he is using evaporative cooling on the outside. A water spray bar works well in humid Florida, but it works extremely well in Las Vegas and does not require a lot of water to do the trick.

...and a system which employs spray bars to spray coolant on the cylinders.
