8hp airboat

5x3! Seriously you need to find a bigger engine. There are minis on here running 35s on fairly small and lightweight boats and they arent hill burners.

There are some guy running 13hp that do good also. for a prop go to arrowprop.com. you should try to find a bigger engine.

What do you want to use the boat for. How much do you weigh.
 
I had a boat a few years back with an 8 hp briggs on it. It did plane out also. It was an older 14 'Sears jon boat very thin aluminum and very light. I had nothing else in the boat other than my fishing gear. I weighed around 200 lbs then. I ran a 36/19 prop on that boat. A kid bought it from me and put a new motor on and planed with two people in it but they are lighter kids.

Did it have any reduction on it, Papee?
 
No, it had no reduction drive on it. That is actually what got me going on these minis and trying to get them to go. It was never my intention to get the thing on plane, I was just trying to make it go as fast as I could. One day while experimenting it just took off. Ever since then I've been trying to make bigger boats go with as little power as possible. That boat was actually a pedestal fan type setup that I put a steering system on.
 
A guy up this way had a 8 hp on his carp boat for years
it was not fast and it did not plane out or run any hill but that thing would get him to the fish and he sure put the hurt on all the other contestants

he even ran it on deep water with 3 guys i know he was the guy that hooked me in to carp shooting on that boat at night with lanterns for lights wow that was 20 years ago
last i knew he is still running that 8 horse
