Matt,

Can't help much..Don't take any chances with the prop! Have a neighbor that has lifetime scars from a "stick" prop grenading.

Uncle Bubba just got his stick prop re-conditioned on his boat recently. He would know a source in your area.

Don't take a chance with it, not worth you life for a few hundred bucks. Take it one of the FAA authorized prop repair shops, I know Senseich is, I think Air-props is also. They can tell you if it can be repaired and if it is worth it. There are a lot of used props for sale from guys upgrading that would be better than risking damage or injury. Good luck.

Take it to Florida Airboat Propellers.... Have him look at it and tell you if it needs replaced or if he can fix it.. have him refinish&balance it for ya! and remember when tightening down a wood prop only tourque the bolts to 35lbs.!

I got the prop from a friend. He just had it redone at Florida Airboat Porpellers that did a super nice job.

Just sent a 72x34 wideblade that was in bad shape to FL-Airboat Props. $227.00 and was sitting back at my door in beautiful shape within about 2 weeks. Well worth the money considering how much the bottom of the boat or your motor could cost.

In my opinion you should try the Sensenich Q blade prop. I'm running one on my 500 caddy DD on about 2 1/2 setting and runs awsome. I'd say almost 2x the push of the wood 72 x 38 paddle. (Might be an exageratoin but it definately pushes harder) And you can get the down to 66 inches I think.

Hey Mood,
I had seen the folks below advertise on the trader. They may be fairly close to you. Never done any deals with them, but it might be worth a try.

complete wood and metal work (leading edge/ tip replacement) Balance and refurb. New props sold. Used props bought and sold.

moodfood,

Haven't done much testing on it yet but I think my Powershift may be one of the loudest props made. From the "naked" ear the warp drive or Sensenich is definately quiter than my Powershift.

Big debate which one has more push! Very tricky investment!

Hope this might help some.

Mood - Take a look at the boat in my photos with the shattered propeller. Turning around 2650 to get moving and propeller exploded. That is what what is left. Alternator, starter, steering, throttle controls, oil cooler, and an oil line all got destroyed. Motor mounts on top (2) and rear mount was destroyed and the 2 front bottom mounts didn't have a lot left holding the motor in the cage, and the motor was still running. Several of the switches on the control panel were sheared off. Stand was twisted and needed replacement as well.

Have to give the lady running the boat credit, she jumped back into the driver seat and shut the mags off.

I am almost certain that was an air prop, their 3 blade wooden propellers had a nasty reputation (pushed great) about not staying together.

Had another bust on me due at a not properly installed air breather (Dumb A$$ ME).

A new composite would be near or about the same as what they spent to get that airgator back in shape.

mood with a dd 350 you can way over rev a prop in that condition I would consider a gear box and a composite prop . your are the one your family and friends are relying on for a fun and safe trip

moodfood - I appreciate the way you handled this situation.
  1. Common sense told you that the prop is especially important when it comes to airboat safety
  2. You asked & received opinions about what to do
  3. Afterwards, you actually checked with a wood prop builder for advice
Makes me feel better, because I'm sure I'll running with you & Laura someday, either next weekend in Salt Springs or on our end of the river someday.
