We have 700 members to date. I'm a little curious on how many members own what. Lets see what the percentage works out to.Converted 220/520,13' Alumitech,3 blade 72" Sensenich

502/502 Chevorlet on my boat

Don't get me wrong, I love aircraft Engines but they can't touch the power and performance of the Chevrolet Engines.
Parts are inexpensive, and readily available. It is also easier to find a mechanic. Aircraft Engines are slowly fading out and Chevrolet Engines are leading the way.

I dont know about all that now. its hard to beat an aircraft motor. Both are good, but I highly doubt they will ever fade away

Those car motors are impressive, and do some amazing things. Even pushing a gigantic boat though some tough terrain.

But then again, my fuel cost to go airboating is amazing too.
If I had a big automotive engine, it would probably be unbelievable.

I finally got to hit the marsh on Sat, and probably rode about 65 miles out there. I'll know for sure when I refuel the boat, but it probably burned around 14 gallons.

I know, I know.
There are some auto boats out there that get amazing fuel economy, and awesome performance. But most of the ones I see are just huge, and have those chevy's working pretty good. They must have an appetite.

I'm not rich, and I'm not a master mechanic, but I get by fixing my A/C engines just fine by myself.

I'll be sticking with my A/C for some time.

13' Aluminum hull, 350 Chevy with belt drive wood prop. Went under in Hurricane Katrina. Looking for go up to a 16' or 18' Aluminum hull with Chevy Big Block.

Car motors because their cheap, you don't use parts from the 50's and 60's, you can buy everything you need new at the 7/11, and they make much more power.

I forgot one important observation that Blackpowder Scout made some time ago:

Chick's just plain dig aircraft engines :D

I have gone 90 miles on 33 Gal of Fuel with a 502/ 502 with 3 blade prop
in a 16ft Boat.

Now some of the auto engines are designed to run on 87 octane!
Not av gas or premium and Marvel Mystery Oil.

You also gotta admit almost all Aircraft engine are leaking oil. You almost never see on on the water that isn't smoking and dripping.

I love A/C engines, and I'd probably run one if :

1) I wasn't too old to care what the chicks think

2) NAPA sold replacement parts for them.

3) I had 100 octane available to me somewhere other than an airport. The puny little 350's I run are perfectly happy on 87 octane pump gas, and there's a Hess station on the corner.

4) They had a high performance ignition system and a modern carburetor that would allow me to tune them for better fuel mileage.

Olf

That's funny Faron! I use to carry a quart or 2 of oil in my boat but it seamed like every trip I had to give them to somebody with an A/C. So I quit and I ain't carried spare oil in five years.
