A/C FUEL INJ

Now that the gpu has been sold, I have my eye on a io520 a/c with fuel inj. its on a 12' diamondback with a 3 blade sensenich. Can anyone give me any ideas on what I need to look for or stay away from. I am not familiar with f/i but the boat runs like a rocket. I am a carb guy and thats what I know. I usaually run with just me and my son but the wife and daughter go occasionally, I know the extra hp is nice but will it be worth it in the long run as far as maint goes?
Thanks for the help, cuz I wanna get back on the water asap.

I just got a 12' Diamondback with a fresh IO520. The motor is getting a final tune-up at Outlaw Aircraft Engines in Plant City. Plan on running it next week. But I'm like you, I have never had fuel injection only carb. I'll let you know next week.

The starting procedures are different than with a carb. The FI set up wright & the correct procedure starting is not much different that the carb. Some people just can not start a Some engine. My experience is based on using the FI in airplanes that I have flown. If you have trouble get some one that flies a Bonanza with the 520 in it (an A36 or 66 or newer maodel V tail. They have the 520

A clean fuel supply would be more critical , not to say you shouldn't
run clean fuel with a carb. but contaminated fuel will be a bigger
pain in the but with the fuelie. A water separator plus a good filter
would be in order. other than that, there shouldn't be a problem.

I have a 520 Carbed. It runs like a champ. If you get one piece of trash or whatever in a fuel injector your done. DONE!

Clean fuel is very important, also make sure that if it is fuel injected that it has an OEM booster pump for the injection. I'm not very familiar with the Cont. but I know that a lot of people pull the injection off of the Lyc. 0540 because they just can't get enough pressure out of the fuel pump with out the booster pump. The engine will still run but with out the booster you don't get the proper fuel atomization and subsequently you will not achieve peak HP numbers.

Just my 2 cents.

know 4 people with FI Conts that run awesome....they all have good filtering. They all run aviation gas, and they all keep up on the maintenance. Seems like they used the same guy to set them up as well?

I love my fi on my 520. Knock on wood haven't clogged an injector in about 200 hrs. I always run ave gas and have a water separator and an in line fuel filter.

where do I find a booster pump? I have seen the a/c pumps sell for around 600$. I think my IO needs around 24psi.

I run a Continental Fuel Injection on my Straight Valve O540. The only problem I have had is that its real easy to Flood when starting up Hot.

Thanks for all the advise everyone, I finally made up my mind and bought a 13' Diamondback w/o540 carb and three blade sensenich. Runs awesome will probably be runnin north from Lone Cabbage on 4/22 w/ Mrs Marshrat and the Marshmice for some catfish. Tony289 where have you been doin your runs with the new boat, saw you where on MI?

I actually ran north from Lone Cabbage today, and will be doing the same tomorrow. I will be out there sometime after three due to my son's baseball game at one. Maybe I will see you out there.
