A Mini-Mini Airboat

Cajun

Well-known member
Went into town on some errands and spotted this, so I found the young owner 18-19 years old. He states this one will do approx. 10 m.p.h. The boat is 8' long the motor is an 11 h.p., the truck is a short wheel base with a tool box so you can see just how long the boat is. I seen the water line on the boat, it sits approx. 3-4" with him in it and he probably weighs about 160 lbs. Him and his cousin has another one , 12' with an 18 h.p. and does pretty good with 3 people in it. I invited him to join the forum and keep us posted on his progress with these puddle jumpers. He said this one had no problems pushing over logs in the river. I just thought I would post some pics for ya'll, I thought it was kinda neat. Later, Cajun

hope he joins up any one who uses a JD seat would be interesting to meet him at some of the rides :D

Heres this pic in case anyone needs to find a dealer to figure you out a prop for a mini. The young man told me , he called and told them what he had and they designed the prop for the application with mounting hub for around $200. The phone # on the prop is 405-279-3833 Later, Cajun

Cajun,

That is a cool little boat. The cage looks like a 'monkey bar" set-up from a playground

I got a 10 HP horizontal shaft Braxton Hicks on my 5 K generator. I think they use them on mixers too.

That's good to know Cajun. We don't have a prop for our little airboat so that helps for sure.

Hey Dakota, I was hoping someone could use some info from this. It sorta started a fire under my butt to do one. I made up my mind not to put big bucks in another one after I sold mine cause the wife just doesn't get along with it any more and she's my main sqeeze,so this would be good for me to have just in case I want to slip out to some back waters. Coooooooooool little puddle jumpers. Smart little man that did the work and research on that little boat. Later, Cajun

Hey everyone, this is the builder of that lil airboat, he has just joined the forum. He goes by lil airboat kid. Welcome aboard and enjoy, bunch of great folks on here. Later, Cajun

Great info! This is a direct drive set up, correct? I have seen some small Briggs engines with a reduction built as part of the engine. I know they offer 2 to 1 and 6 to 1 reduction on some engines. I have been researching, but so far the only engines I have seen with the reduction are in the 5 to 8 h.p. range. Anyone have any other info?

Yep , for some nice mini airboats Carrol Dixon and them have some nice stuff. I just thought this was pretty neat what this young man did with stuff from around his place , and on an 8' jon boat hull. It just shows ya that its kinda unlimited what can be done with alittle time and effort. But by far for a mini airboat, the Dixon's probably have the best on the market. Later, Cajun

Hey Cajun thanks for the nice coment about our boats. They are nice boats, but this guy has shown us what can be done with a little time and imagination. What he did is very good and it apparantly works.Job well done.By the way I did not put that post on there about "take a look at Airboats Unlimiteds boats" I have no clue who did that.I had a housefull of company for lunch and one of the guys was on my computer and must have put it on there.I would not have done that.Hey there's a lot of nice one's out there and ours just happens to be one of them, look all you want but be sure and look at all of them. Thanks for the nice plug you put in.Carol

my boat did alright it goes 10-15 with a old motor it is a direct drive and I'm not sure about the reduction system maybe a tiller ill find out and let you know on that one and if anyone needs or wants to check out the prop the website is http://www.arrowprop.com ill have mine painted soon and new pics up as soon as i get them
we built the boat before the prop arrived.

Now that looks like a way to have alot of fun cheap. Thats a 13h.p. Honda ? and what size prop? no reductions or anything , just direct drive? Look like it would move it along pretty good. Thanx, Cajun

Yeah it's a 13hp GX390 Honda industrial engine, a 42x18 prop from RND props, and a prop adapter from arrow props. Direct drive. The guy drivin it in the video is a friend whom had never been on an airboat before so he wouldn't stay in the gas very much, It'll go a little faster than what was in the video. When the video opens he is going through water thats about 6 foot deep on plane, the other shots are in shallower water 6 inches - 2 feet. In 6 inches of water that thing will really haul @$$. You can run for hours on a gallon or two of gas. I had a lot of fun building it and running it but now that I have my big boat the little one just sits in the backyard.
