A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS

COLD

Well-known member
I was looking through the videos and pics. on this site and noting different design differences when I thought it would be really helpful if you guys had the time to snap some pics of different design features and post so we can figure out how to build it. steering arms so we can figure out how much mech. advantage, hull bottoms, engine tower attachment to hull, etc. etc. etc. Quite often we have a tendancy to overbuild and things get heavy. If we can see what works it would give us valuable information and ideas.
Thanks!

Now Cold, you're startin' to talk like a Yankee again .....

You just need to load-up the little woman, and your camera, and come down to one of the rides/events that we've got goin on all year long down here. You can get all the pictures you want.

That's actually not a bad idea, But I would probably bring my boys. Want to keep my wife working! I work for the airline so cheap flights but stand by, My wife's a teacher so only time she can travel is holidays and tough to get a seat during holidays. I will keep an eye open for your next gathering. I thought it was brilliant of me to try and get you guys to do my work for me. After the parachute thing I thought anything is possible!

I was just havin some fun. I'll be happy to try and help ya' if there's anything in particular that you'd like to have a pic of. Let me know and I'll try to find it for you. PM me with your email addy so I can send ....

Take a look at these two 4 cyl boats. the structure is light and functional. The white one (30+ years old) belongs to cowboy and the black one to a friend of his. They are both palm beach style. The hull and sides are made from two 4 ft sheets rivited.

SO BF! does this mean your taking back your invitation? Thanks for the pics. Jim, Looks nice.

No, no Cold, write and we'll try to help. Jim is a master at posting stuff. He's tried to tell me how, but I'm too thick to get it.

Jim those are NICE little boats! Cold, I tried to tell you to look for a small A/C engine ... now do you see why?

Cowboy - Nice Hull and set up. Who made your hull? And who made your friends Hull?

Cold - Let us know of what exactly you want as far as pictures go. I know where a nice mechanical steering set up is as well. I can get photos of it if you want.

Rigging is alittle more tricky, Lycomings have a design that really is easy to convert for airboats.

I have always thought that one of those high reving Jap motors would be cool, but the ability or thought process how to rig one up as an airboat engine is way beyond me. Keep us posted.

After learning so much in the begings of this project, (thanks much to this site) I might be going with a big engine. I would really like 5 seats and while they are light I really like the run dry and running the hill options. Like I say, I'm learning! We will still be building our own drive. I have a machine shop owner that is into the project. The 100 HP engine I have is just a Toyota 2SE 2.0L single cam. Nothing special but also slant block (hull ballance issues). I think these small engines are areally good option for small boats especially with a reduction unit. A lot of these engines were built to run at 4500 RPM all day so if you have just about 200 foot lbs. of torque from 1500-3000 rpm at the prop it would be pretty cool. For pics. im interested in auto instalations. Rudders and linkage, (im thinking tube with AC style of hiem joints). I would like perfered ratio of mechanical advantage for rudder, How much rudder leading edge in front of pivot, length of arms. Size of stringers engine mounted to. Any long drive pics, havent seen any up close yet. Ideas for easy aplication of polymers on the bottom and incorporate in the build process. Not asking much! Thanks loads!

MM Pat, we've got him now .....

Cold, would you like the phone number for Water Thunder's shop?

JUST KIDDIN! Ya' gotta learn how to take me, man ... I'd poke fun at the Devil himself.
