air/oil seperator

Here's a photo of one I temporarily installed on my 220 GPU. I wanted to see how much blow by I was getting so I used clear hose. I ran the oil drain to a small plastic bottle to collect the oil. Before I replaced two cylinders I would half fill the bottle after a 30 minute run. Now it's just a little and the rings aren't even set yet.

The oil separator doesn't get all the blow by oil but it gets most of it. My top vent line usually has a little oil but mostly moisture residue left in the low spots. You can run the drain line back into the engine but I wanted to see the quantity I put out.

Tom Jeffords makes some nice looking ones and the price seems low compared to the ones we get for aircraft. He has them advertised on this site and in Airboat Trader as well. I would recommend those if you are looking for one. If you have blowby it will save a few bucks on oil. No separator will save all the oil but they do work. The moisture goes out the vent and the oil back into the engine.

D.M.B.,do you also use a blow by hose on the rear of your engine?I can't see one in the picture. My engine has one under the alternator and one on the front of the engine.
My mag is on the left side,as you face the front of the engine. The rest I've seen are on the right. Is there some reason for this,or do you just stick them where you want them?
Is that a Predator carb.?
