The Airboat Association of Florida, located in Dade county, 9 miles west of Krome ave, on the Tamiami is holding several events.

On Feb. 10...we are having a Fish fry, and poker run. Our running area is south of the Trail, and is over 10 thousand acres big. Boat ramp, gated parking area.

On April 28 is our annual BBQ, live band, vendors, sky lift to look around while 65 feet up, Rib's-Chicken and all the fixings...lot's of things to do, free airboat ride's, lots of fun...
Alittle about us.....

Located on the Historic Tamiami Trail The Airboat Association of Florida was established in 1951 by a group of sportsmen, and conservationists. The Airboat Association of Florida is one of the oldest, active conservation organizations in the State of Florida. The Association is a non - profit organization whose objectives are the preservation and conservation of the Florida Everglades.
The Miami Dade Fire Department uses AA o F grounds to train Firefighters in rescue, and aviation disaster preparedness Operations.
In addition to Dade County, the Association works with State and Federal officials whose duties are to protect wildlife and enforce the game laws.
The Airboat Association of Florida holds an annual barbecue in April that provides revenue for the Association and our various activities through out the year.
Pm Me with any questions....

At our next board meeting, i plan on bringing this up. We as a club want to support all airboating issues, and this one sure is important....
We are dealing with several, Our running area was all private land, but is now owned by the National Park so were dealing with how we can use the area. Our land was exempt from the 1984 park acquistion, and people who owned airboats that year can run the area for life, but we might be subject to marked trails, or if the area is declaired a wilderness, maybe no airboats. In addition, there is plans to re do the Tamimai trail to include bridges over the marsh, raising the water level. So weve got our issues as well, but the good fight keeps on........
Im the mean while, were trying to enjoy what we have!!

did a run down there with those guys 5 or so years ago...nice place, and good food. Too bad it coincides with the SA glades run.

Our club helped support the Homestead Rodeo, this past weekend......we had 10 airboats in the Saturday Parade, including the Miami Dade county Rescue Airboat, and Ladder truck,,,,,,We had a booth at the Rodeo grounds where we sold cap's and t-shirts, as well we have a brand new airboat up for raffel. I will be posting pictures soon.
Its a full deck, alum hull, 13'x7 full grass rake, with a new 0-360, hemi head 200hp+ Lycoming. Its Fire engine red, with lots of custom paint flames etc, etc,,,,trailer, all rigging is power coted, including the trailer. We are seling 500 tickets at $50.00, when the last ticket is sold, we make the drawing. The boat is on display at he Airboat Association grounds.

Davie,
I have pages from an old Popular Mechanics from '53 that have the story and pictures of the Airboat races (roundy round style) in Biscayne Bay. It mentions the Airboat Association of Florida. Great history piece.

Also I'm president of Florida Association of Florida and we would really welcome AAF into the group. We need/you need numbers to fight the fight. The airboat community MUST stand together.

Send me a PM and we'll get together. I will also be at the shows in the WaterWalker booth.
And how do we get hold of those raffle tickets?

Bob
